This is the Beyond the Story podcast, a show that goes way beyond the story. And now, Sebastian Rusk Hey, thanks for being here. I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to hang out with us for a few minutes. I know we connected over the great Dan Martell's elite coaching group, and it is definitely an elite group of human beings.
00:00:38.729 --> 00:02:58.543
So good to finally connect with you here. I love doing it, So I love telling people's stories on this show, and for context purposes, I always like to give our listeners an opportunity to go back a little bit to the beginning of the story. Now, the beginning of the story is different for everybody, so you choose wherever the beginning is, but bring us back to the beginning of the story and walk us through what Well, you know, my background, I've been in business for about 20 years, but my background is really, of all over the place. I had 10 years in real estate. I was a real estate agent for five years, endured the great 2007, 2008 as a realtor. That was fun. And then I was a lender for about five years. And then I was introduced to the industry of network marketing. I was actually introduced to it years prior when the real estate market crashed, had a brief stint in it. and then became really active in 2014 and changed my life, changed my family's life, hit the top rank in the company in five months, created massive momentum and success, built a team that has sold over 100 million in online products from my network alone, earned multiple seven figures. And I loved everything that the industry represented. And it's such an interesting bittersweet space that I'm in now because I've had this eye-opening experience and awakening to the fact that you don't own anything. I thought I was an entrepreneur and a business owner for over a decade. And it wasn't until someone said, no, you don't actually own any of your business. I fought it. I was like, that's not true. And then over time I had to grieve this reality or this fantasy world that I was living in that I owned my business. And also on top of that, I knew some things were happening, uh, underground or behind the scenes that the most people didn't know about as far as ownership of the company had changed. I knew the owner was releasing something soon. I didn't know what. And then it ended up that he released a competing product. There was a lot of things that were happening in my business that I realized I have literally zero control over anything. And I knew prior to that, I wanted to build my own business, but I didn't know exactly what I wanted.
00:02:58.622 --> 00:03:09.893
I just knew I wanted to have my own business. And it was going through the process of offer creation that I realized That's the one skill you don't learn in the network marketing space is offer creation.
00:03:09.992 --> 00:05:32.134
How do you find problems we're solving? Because you're never trained how to find problems we're solving. You're literally just trained how to sell somebody else's product in somebody else's model. And so I kind of went through this process of how do I figure out what I want to do to realizing I really want to help other women that have the same type of background as me that have all these incredible skills. There are so many people that have an incredible story and set of skills that the world needs. And if they just learn the simple aspect of how to find problems worth solving, that they are equipped to solve based on their story and their lived experiences, you can create an offer that the world needs. And so that's, what's I'm still active with that company. I have clients and customers that I have been loyal customers for years. I'm not actively building a team and It's, it's bittersweet to say the least. I'm recently was asked to run a corporate call and I can't in my heart of hearts run a corporate call talking about the opportunity that doesn't fit. And there's nothing wrong with the industry of network marketing. Let me be crystal clear. It's almost like waitressing or serving. I think everyone should serve at some point in their life. They should learn what it means to be a waiter or a waitress, because then you understand what it's like to be on the other side of the table. And I learned that was my very first job. I learned so many incredible life skills in that job. But I compare it to that in that it will teach you so many skills, sales skills, how to be told no, how to be resilient, how to post content, how to a lot of aspects of being an entrepreneur. You can learn without any risk. There's no overhead. There's no there's a lot of things you can gain. It's it was no, it was a long time of wanting to make this decision and resisting it because of all kinds of stories. I, I had convinced myself. So one of the reasons that I so passionately want to help other women in this industry is that there's this, this quiet, mental mindset that's happening for a lot of women because you're celebrated and you're put on this pedestal. I was, I was on calls. I spoke on stages. I was recognized over and over and over. And I was told you're incredible. You're amazing. You're phenomenal.
00:05:32.173 --> 00:05:53.447
You could be dropped in the jungle and you could do anything. The reality was though, I wasn't, I was not actually able to be dropped in the jungle and go do anything because I did not know offer creation. And so as the pedestal got taken away, I went through this season of feeling like, I think I maybe just got lucky. Maybe I actually don't have any skills. Maybe this just randomly happened.
00:05:54.026 --> 00:06:08.334
And it wasn't until I heard another woman in my company on a call. This was a private corporate call where corporate was asking, how can we help create different results in this business? And this woman said, I respect her a ton. She's powerful.
00:06:08.394 --> 00:13:39.490
She's well-spoken. She's created a lot of success. Also earned seven figures, multiple probably. She said, I'm losing one liter away from having to go get a job. And it hit me that another woman that's powerful that has, I know immense skills, believes her only option is to go back and find a job. And you're kind of wired to think that I did a massage yesterday. I'm like, I need my water. you're wired to think in network marketing, you're kind of, it's this weird thing where you're, you're wired to think that network marketing is the best business model out there. And it is as it compared to brick and mortar. Absolutely. Because there's so much leverage that you can create with an online business, but there's a lot of other businesses that are actually more phenomenal than network marketing, you're kind of made to think that it's like the end-all be-all. And if you can't cut it here, then you just can't cut it. And I don't believe that I'm the only one that has created massive success in the industry that has fallen victim to believing some of those lies. So as my business was in decline, I went through the season of, oh, that must mean something about me. My business is in decline, so I must not be as amazing as I was told I was, right? Now, I mean, that sounds super egotistical, but I had to go through this process of reframing. I needed that to happen to push me. My business was in decline for a lot of reasons that had nothing to do with me, for one. when the entire company is in decline, then it's not just you. Um, but also I had to reframe that happened for me, not to me. That was happening to push me out of my comfort zone and force me into the next level because it was a year and a half prior to all of this coming to light that I knew I wanted to step on a bigger stage. I knew I wanted to help women at a bigger level. I knew I wanted to help women that, that wanted to have success in their business and their mindset and their life, but didn't want to build what I was building. And I really felt at that time, even years ago, restricted feeling like I can only help you if you want to do my thing. I can only help you if you build my business and sell my product. And so I wanted to be a business coach. I want it not so much be a business coach, but help women step into their power, help women see that they're capable, help women overcome those limiting beliefs. And I had to almost go through the valley of despair to realize how to do that outside of the model. And it's interesting reflecting back on every single aspect of the last few years happened for me, not to me. But it wasn't an overnight thing. It was, I want to do this, but I'm scared for a really Yeah. Well, that's the challenge with network marketing. You never own the product and you're not in control of the growth or non growth of where it's at. And there's just never any sustainability. It's like, I have like two success stories that I know of from like new skin and Amway people that I known like in my entire lifetime that have made an entire life and career out of it. Otherwise it's, there for a season and then it's there and the people aren't there or the company folds or something happened or something I was never able to. When I first started 15 years ago, I worked for a company on the corporate side of things. I facilitated all of their training and that's actually where I began my speaking career. So I'm really grateful for the industry and working on the corporate side. building the downline, the product and all that. I was never had an interest for it at all, but network marketing, a portion of that brought me to the stage and finding my passion and what I would actually go on to do become my life's work on there. So, well, I'm glad you arrived at a place where you're like, Hey, listen, I think that there's more here. There's always more here for us. And you've discovered that helping women create what they want to do and build something sustainable for them and an offer, et cetera. So bring us to present day right Exactly. Helping them identify what are the skills that you have? What is the impact that you want to make? What have you gone through that other women need to go through? And not just women, I have a couple men in my in my program as well. I was about to say there are so many I know I, for a while, I had it as just women only in my bio. And one of the men that I work with now said that he hesitated reaching out for the longest time because of that. So I'm not just strictly working with women, but primarily women. But we're working on how do you create the offer? How do you create an irresistible offer? How do you make your offer something that is an easy yes for people, but also How do you make an offer that people get value from and get transformation from that you feel good delivering? I also went through a season in my network marketing experience where I sacrificed everything and then some. About 18 months of working and I missed everything, birthday parties, bedtime stories. everything, dinners out, like everything. And yes, it provided us so many blessings. We live in our dream home. Like I said, I created phenomenal success, but it was at a cost. And so between refining offer creation, helping my clients identify how do you make an offer irresistible? How do you make an offer a no brainer for clients? How do you deliver an offer without sacrificing your It's been about seven months. So And how's it been going so far? You feel like you're more aligned I'm so freaking obsessed. I am so obsessed for so many different reasons. Seeing people step into their purpose and I have one client that hadn't had her first client. She'd And what it's already turned into, we've been working together Um, it's just, it's so incredibly rewarding to see that now this is she's stepping into this full time and that I have clients that do that have a couple of different types of businesses that are just looking at how can they market well, how can they, because I've been on social media for over a decade and built so much of my business with social media, helping clients learn how they can tell their story, promote their brand, promote their mission in content. And I really love the idea of being able to build your business and build your personal brand online at the same time, because your personal brand is something that you will take you everywhere you go for the rest of your life. So how can you create content and a movement that promotes your business sells for you and also promotes you as a person in the long run, that Love it.
