You need months out here to really get the lay of the land. I'm like, oh, you were out here for two weeks. That's cute, honey. Okay, we had gelato. Get your ass out here. Come live out here. It's incredible.

I just may. I just may. So uh don't threaten me with a good time, lady. So you and I met uh through my television. I was uh why do watching a dating show? Um love love without boundaries, love with no borders was what it love without borders.

There we go. I'm a 90-day fiance guy. So in between those, when that season's not around, I was like, oh, another dating show. And uh yes, but these people seemed somewhat normal, like a little bit, like a little bit.

They they were pretty normal. I mean, listen, this this show, it was an experiment, and it definitely brought up people's trauma very quickly. Uh, just behind the scenes, the producer at one point was like, This is not supposed to be a show about a trauma, but about trauma. But you know, when you put people in an intense scenario like that, of course it's gonna trigger the shit out of them. And it did.

Well, you know, having been on a reality show, I know that you know, reality shows are not reality, and they are going to produce those things according to exactly what they want the storyline to be, you know, almost down to the point of telling you what to do. So, but it there's a little bit of a conflict there when you've got uh you know human nature involved, just like you said, where you know, when stuff, especially with when it comes to emotional things and and matters of the heart, uh, those things are going to come to the service. So there's only so much Hollywood could control. So I kind of like that. That's kind of fun.

Yeah. So these people were the same people, it's called kinetic. They produced uh and they make love is blind. And so I I'd been approached my almost my whole career by shows, but none of them ever really felt right. And when they came to me, I was actually living in Bali, Indonesia. I actually said no at first. I was like, nope, I don't, I don't live in LA, have no plans of coming back to LA. Uh, I live in Bali, Indonesia. And the guy was like, he was really smart casting agent. He was like, No, no, no, let's get on the phone. But what I loved about this production company was I saw Love is Blind. And it's like you, there's a whole lot of that that you just kind of have to take your hands off and and and let the cameras roll. And that's what we did with our show. A lot of what you see is not being produced, it's it's what you get. It was real live human experiences.

And were you on every episode?

I was on every episode. Uh, the thing that was most annoying was for three months I was on a plane every three to four days. And so you don't get to see me in hardly any of the countries. You see me a little bit in Panama, and I think you see, oh, you see me in Panama and you see me in Dubai. I'm like, what about those three times that I went to freaking Ireland and the two times I went to Paris, and you see none of that, which is very annoying. But it's it's it's a long show, so there's so much that they can put in.

Yeah, I did notice that. I was like, you had to, I did that. Was funny that you bring that up because I was like, This she's remoting in a lot, but there's also a lot of being there too.

So you have it was the most difficult thing I've ever done physically in my life. Like you're talking about like flying from country to country, showing up, and I'm like, what country am I in? What hotel am I in? And we were doing this during COVID, so it was it was insane, insane, but somehow we all pulled it off.

I don't know. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see.

That girl from New York that you worked with really did parlay that TV opportunity into what she's doing with her brand. I forgot what her name is.

Yeah, I'm like, she's a little firecracker. She was already doing it though, prior to the show.

I could tell she was, and you know what? She was a gem, she was a real angel. Yeah, really good girl.

Seemed like that. I'm saying the very I was very well cast for like a dating show, you know, because sometimes it's you know, that's why you're watching it because it's real people.

What I got to do little interviews with them in the process, and I just I fell in love with all of them. You know, there's a couple of them I'd like to put my hands around their neck, but for the most part, I fell in love with them. I was like, Oh my gosh, where did you find these people?

SPEAKER_01 6:00

But good, yeah, that's that's good casting right there. Yeah, I I was on a show in 2014, 2014, maybe 2015 on Fox with George Lopez, but it was more of like a game show. But I had a friend call me and say, Hey, our I got a casting director, I wore bow ties at the time, looking for a guy with a bow tie. I didn't know that was a pitch at the time, anyway. She said, Can you come do a quick screen test on Miami Beach? So I went to this like apartment complex on Miami Beach and like did this like screening. Why do you want to find love on national television? And they call me back like a two days later and we're like, they want you come sign up, you know, a mile-high stack of paperwork and uh keep um next Friday to the following Friday open because you may or may not be going to LA or New York, we'll let you know. Uh hard is 250 bucks.

They can't they have no regard for any it's like in their world, TV is everything, and you just put your whole life on hold for their show. Hurry up and wait. It's the mentality is mind-boggling.

Yeah, exactly. Exactly, but you know what? They get away with it. It's supply and demand. People want to be on TV so they can they can get away with it.

I had to, I was some great experiences though. I had uh I had to fly to New York to meet the producers for like 10 seconds. I didn't know it was gonna be that quick, but and it was a day trip. First time I ever flown to New York for the day and back. Uh, but that was cool, and then I had to fly to New York so they could shoot like your whole package deal, and they had to like recreate Miami in in LA. Made no sense. But I brought my daughter, it was a cool experience. They paid us like 250 bucks, and I have lifelong friends, so you know. There you go. I did not get a date. I did not get a date. I'll have to share the video with you. Um, it was me and 30 women. Yes, absolutely. They like have to turn their lights on, like they buzz their buzzer if they like you or not, or if they don't like you. So uh by the time my kid popped out in one of like the scenes where they would play like my whole like, here's what he's doing when he's not trying to find love on national television. Uh, that was a wrap. But uh, you know what? Working with George Lopez, prime time spot on Fox, 9 p.m. on a Thursday, filmed in a Hollywood studio. I'll take the experience, you know.

It was a lot of fun. A lot of fun. I you know I did it was because my mentor is Ryan Seacrest, who I saw you been interviewed by.

I love Ryan, he's so great. Yes, he it was funny. He's a beast. He um they actually messaged me they needed an expert on their show, and so I was like messaging the PR with a production company. I'm like, because no one was announcing the show, and I was like, You guys have to like like Ryan Secrets wants to bring me on. You have to let me announce the show on his show. You have and they, of course, they start firing their emails and they're like, You have the green light, you can announce the show. So I got to actually announce the show before it Bravo or anybody really announced it on Ryan's show, which was really cool because I'd been watching Ryan, you know, for from American Idol forever. So since the highlights, yeah.

Remember his highlights on season one. Uh no, he's he's incredible. Yes, when remember, there was two, and like that one guy, he they're like, What is he up to now? I forget Billy. What's his nuts anyway? Uh, there were two hosts for American Idol, and and then um that didn't last very long, and for good reason. But um, I I say that a lot about Seagress is the Ryan's a spotlight guy.

You can't you can't take the spotlight from that guy. He's just he's got a charisma to him, and he's got this genuineness about him that people just they wanna they want to see more of him.

Yeah, yeah. No, I've been studying him for years. Absolutely. I mean, just how he takes the stage, how he holds a mic, how he talks. I think I've only seen him mess up once. We he high-fived the blind guy on idle. That was about it. Yeah, stop, yeah. Right after he like got the golden ticket again, came out and he went to go high-five. Like, that's the only time I've seen a Seacrafts like faux pas like ever at all, because he's just on it. Yes. So haven't met him yet. Uh got grand plans to meet him one day. I'm sure it's gonna happen. I know it's gonna happen. So uh he uh he's taught me a lot, that is for sure, especially with you know how you show up on camera and how you stage presence and how you carry yourself and the whole nine. And uh he just you know runs Hollywood and has replaced the greats, you know. Which I mean, what more could you really ask for?

I don't know that we would thank him for that. I don't know that that was so uh let's back up a little bit. How did you get into the whole world of of of dating and being a dating expert and everything that you've got going on today? I always love to know the backstory.

SPEAKER_00 10:41

Sure, it was a complete fluke. Um, I I got married at 18, divorced at 26, and I was living in Texas, and you know, there's a whole backstory there, but basically, very religious home. You don't divorce in Texas, and I was like, the hell you don't watch me, hold my beer, and so and so I did, and uh, I was doing real estate at the time, and uh my business partner was in Columbus, Ohio, and he said, Come to Columbus, escape your religious prison, and and so I did, and I was a single girl there, and I'm gonna tell you the real backstory. I don't typically tell this, but I found my space and I was like, wait a minute, I can find all these really hot guys and I can stare at them and they'll never know. I was like a kid in a candy store, I'm like sending friend requests. I was like, I was like a beast, and then I was like, hey, want to go out for drinks? That's how I started dating before there were apps or any of this stuff. That's how I started dating as a newly divorced 26-year-old who'd never experienced the world. And so I started dating through this. Well, I became queen of the town. Like I was in every single club. I was on a date from I the joke was and it was real. I was on a date Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and I was at the clubs Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I fell in love with dating. I fell in love with all of it. But the reality was, I've always had a gift with connecting with people. So fast forward, I moved to LA. I'm like, I want to be on TV, I want to be a model, I'm gonna be this, I'm gonna be that. Same business partner, smart guy, met me in LA and he said, I think you need to start a blog giving people dating advice. And this is what I said that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Who needs help with dating? It's like taking candy from a baby. Who needs help with this? And he was like, sis, look at your girlfriends. They're hot and look at the losers they're dating. And he was like, You were dating like these incredible guys. He was like, You have a gift, you do something different. Start writing about it. So I started writing about it. And my background is my parents are both ministers. So I always kind of wanted to be a teacher. When I was little, I was like, I want to be a teacher, I want to be a teacher. Um, and then coupled with my parents being ministers, I was when I was married, I was a youth pastor. So like it was ingrained into me like your mission in life is to serve people. So I already had this like, I want to change the world, I want to make the world a better place. I thought being an actress would do that. So he comes up with this and he says, I think you need to start writing about dating advice. I said, I think it's stupid. And he was like, Listen, Erica, you got to do this. You have this gift. Tell people what you're doing. So it started off with just a simple blog. And Sebastian, people started writing me in and been like, hey, I'm about to walk out of my marriage or I'm struggling with suicide. And it became like real talk. Fast forward, this is in 2008, 2010. So I'm giving like sex in the city style advice. It the blog, it doesn't even exist anymore. It's called Bella Gab. And so fast forward two years later, it's kind of like shallow advice, but people are still resonating because I'm talking about confidence. I'm talking about knowing your value, knowing your worth, you know, standing up for yourself, all these things. 2010 happens, and my baby sister gets hit by a drunk driver. And uh it turned my whole life upside down. And what kept everything together was my family's love. My parents' love for me, my parents' love, you can't even imagine showing up to a surgery intensive care unit every day, not knowing if your daughter, if your sibling is going to live or die. And so, in that season of our life, I was like, love is a powerful force. And it really, it, it, it started, I started infusing my message with that. I was like, I gotta take this more seriously. I was taking it serious, but this was coming from a whole different place. This was coming from the power of love and how it can revolutionize, it can change your life if you will so put yourself in the position to be able to receive it. And so then I started a YouTube channel and then coaching and selling online courses. And then throughout that, I would always just get pinged with like, hey, we'd love you for this reality show. We've saw your YouTube, we'd love you for this show, we'd love you for that show. And and then none of them worked out. But and then it finally did. So that's that's the backstory. It it was uh it was like this, you know, they say like success isn't like this, it's like that. Well, that was the story of how this all kind of came to life. So I've been doing this for 15 years. Um, now the market is saturated. You've got all these people who are paying for trainings and becoming certified. And but I did it back when people, when I was out in LA and people were like, What do you do for a living? Can you imagine that conversation? I'm a dating coach. What the hell is that? Are you kidding me? And that that that was the game. That was there was no big YouTube following, there were no Instagrammers or TikTok, there was none of that. We were like the OGs of the game. And yeah, it was it was really difficult trying to explain that to people. Finally, I just quit saying it. I was like, I have a YouTube channel and I give dating relationship advice. But no, I'm I'm I came up with a lot of the OGs back in the days.

Love it. What's the toughest part of your job?

SPEAKER_00 16:48

Oh, you know what? The toughest part of my job is that people think that relationships is a systematic pro process. Everyone wants the A B C's, and I'm like, what did Rumi say? Rumi says that your job is not to find love, but to remove all the barriers that keep you from love. It's people don't have that mindset at all. It's just like, show me that, show me how I need to talk to a girl. When should I kiss a girl? When should I ask for someone's phone number? And I'm like, no, no, no, no. You have love inside of you, you have everything that you need to attract love. Your responsibility is to remove every single barrier that is getting in the way, which comes into what inner healing, inner child wounds, like all of those things that are not sexy. It's like getting people to understand that is the most difficult of my work. If if if I could just wave a magic wand and people to go, okay, I have to look at myself. I I embody love, I am made out of God's image. Therefore, I carry the presence of love on my life. If I'm not experiencing love in my life, then there's a barrier there. How do I change the barrier? That's my hardest job as a dating and relationship expert.

And how does someone do that? Like what's practical advice that you give them as far as being able to remove that barrier once they've been able to. I mean, I guess I would I would only assume that the getting them to arrive at a place where they accept the fact that there is, in fact, a barrier there is is a task by just by itself. But once they've arrived there, what you know, what are some practical things people can do to to to push through that barrier and and and find themselves in a different place?

So yeah, yeah. I have this whole program, it's called Emotional Warrior. And what it was was I created this out of my own journey. And so it was, you know, first and foremost, I always anytime I start working with a client, my first question, what do you think my first question is when I start working with someone?

Why do you want to meet somebody?

SPEAKER_00 18:57

No. My first question is, what did your parents teach you about love? First question, as soon as I take on a client, what did mom and dad teach you about love? So this emotional warrior program, the first thing that I address in the program is what's your story? What's your history? What is your journey with love look like? Because I can tell you right there, those are where your barriers are. Every single time. It's you know, you can say it's like therapy or anything. It goes to the root. Let's get to the root of it. If you give me access to that root, I will change the trajectory of your life. But if you're too scared to go there, then we're just dealing with symptoms. We're just dealing with problems. Let's get to the root and baby, let's set you free so that you can be in a position of receiving love.

I'm down. Let's go. Uh, so let's do this. Yeah. You uh you mentioned that Rumi quote, and it reminded me. I don't know if you've heard this story before, and I don't even know if it's an internet story or whatever the case is, but it's damn good. And it's the story of Michelangelo creating the statue of David and people raving at the absolute beauty of this creation that Michelangelo was able to create with the statue of David. And I was once asked, How did you how did you create such beauty? And he said, I didn't create anything, I simply chipped away at everything that wasn't David, and David appeared. And I thought, whoa, yes. What would life look like if you chip a chip over here?

Do it. That is what I do. I start chipping away all that is so brilliant. I've never heard thank you for that. I'm gonna run with that. That is exactly what I do when I'm working with a client. It's chipping away all of the pieces that don't belong there, all of the lies, all of the insecurity, all of the self-doubt, all of the rejection, all of those blows that you've been given are all lies that are laying embedded into your heart, and you were building your life on top of those lies. Yeah, is essentially what it is.

I say that a lot. We you know, we were I give permission, I be I give people permission a lot with what I get to do. I mean, starting a podcast is like public speaking. So people have to step into a different version of themselves. And a lot of the talks that I get the opportunity to give, before I even get started, I let everybody know, yes, you can. And they're like, what is this guy? What is this? Some sort of motivational talk. I said, I don't know, maybe it is because we all need a little motivation from here and uh here and there. But the point of me telling people and giving people permission and saying yes, you can is because somewhere along the line, someone told us that we couldn't do something and we believed them. And then we took it a step further and we started to live our lives according to that story.

You know, it's the game of speech. It's like by what right? Because I have a voice. Do you remember that scene? Did you say that? Because I have a voice. Oh my god, I know you need to be using that story because it's that story. He he he he fights the guy's struggles with stuttering, he can't speak, and his his coach is like myself, super unconventional, and really just pushes all of those barriers, starts chipping away, and he finally breaks them down because he won't go to the core. He finally breaks them down, he gets to the core. Oh, yeah, yeah.

Is this with Tony Robbins? I think I've seen I saw something similar with a guy that stuttered too, and it was like this wild like he wasn't stuttering anymore. But no, yeah, you're gonna have to share this with me because I want to know more now.

The movie, it's a movie, it's with Colin Farrell, it's mind-boggling. What's the name of the movie? The king's speech.

It's about about Queen Elizabeth's father, his journey of becoming king.

It's it's my but he screams out at one point because I have a voice, and it's like, yeah, he's like, That's right, you do. And his whole story, he he couldn't speak because he had a father who just had him by the throat, you know, and he just stuttered his way through life. Yeah, it's and that's what the coach is trying to do, he's trying to get to that. He was like, Let's go to the place that you lost your voice. And if you let me go there, you'll get your voice back. And he fought him the whole way until the very end. And he finally was like, Oh, hell, this guy actually knows what he's talking about. Yeah, he does.

I don't feel like I stepped in and got my cut, like was able to catch a rhythm with like who I am in my voice until I started to do the work on me. So until I before that was just like this facade of what I wanted to be, and I would emulate what I thought I should be, but I never was able to step into who the fuck I really was. And now I now I I feel it. I mean, I feel it because I I embrace where it's all at. But you know, as a child, it was, you know, he's hyper, he talks too much. He's you know, the whole the whole nine. Like if I would have followed all that stuff, I'd be out of business right now. But I just realized the more work that we get the opportunity to do on ourselves, the more we realize people aren't not everybody chooses the path to do the work and and become the best version of themselves, you know.

Unfortunately, we live in a world I call it and my whole yeah, my whole emotional warrior program is all about the journey of going through the heart. And I break down like what does it practically look like from living from your heart? And that is the essence of it all. If we have, especially in Western culture, we have it so backwards, everything is mind. You know, if I just set this goal, and if I just have this mindset, it's like it's ass backwards. Yeah, life is meant to be built from the heart, the mind is a servant unto the heart, the heart speaks out, hey, this is my desire, hey, this is my pain. And then the brain is to go there and go, okay, how do we address that? But we do everything backwards, and it's like, you know, I just gotta, I gotta self-will my way through this, you know. I just gotta, like you were saying, you were, you know, I gotta put on this facade and be no, the heart has all the answers. And if you will spend time with your heart, if you will cultivate a relationship with your heart, it will show you everything, it will show you your real voice, it will show you your roadblocks, but you have to have the balls and the courage to spend time with it and to relinquish the mind of being the king, lord, and savior of your life.

Whoa, we gotta feel it. You know, you gotta feel it.

You can't heal what you won't feel.

Yeah, and it's a it's a daily process. I mean, the work you're never done. We've only got a lifetime to to figure it out. But every day I turn my shower on cold and tell myself I'm committed to it.

And here's the beauty of it the Bible says that we go from glory to glory to glory. And I know when people hear that, like, oh, we have to do the work and it's so hard. I'm like, no, no, no, don't then don't make that the focus. Make the focus that you are going. I just did this whole course called up leveling yourself. We are supposed to go from glory to glory to glory. And it's like, no, I'm just removing the shit that's weighing me down so that I can go to my next level of glory, so that I can up level, so that I upgrade. I do the work so that I can uplevel. I'm not this masochist that I just want to like constantly work on myself. No, I'm addicted to freedom because I tasted the sweetness of freedom. And because it tastes so damn good, I want to keep experiencing more and more of it. I want to go from one glory of freedom to the next glory of freedom to the next glory from there. That's why I do the work because I want to be free.

Come to give you life and life abundantly. It's all encompassed to do that. Yeah.

Yes. Heaven on earth, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We're not trying to go somewhere, we're here, we're now heaven on earth, and we experience that as we become free of the hell that we live in on the inside.

He did a concert for us after the first night, and I thought I never forgot that song, and it's still a hit and it never gets old because uh yeah, I sing it to myself all the time. Yeah, it's so it's such a great declaration, you know. I mean, we have to if we don't believe it, nobody else is going to.

You know, so no, um and when we believe it, we give other people the permission to believe it for themselves, but we have to live it out first.

I love that. But I also into that same point when we shift, when we do the work and we we become the best version of ourselves that people around us shift, people that we love and care about that we don't even know make shifts because of how we're showing up, and we don't have to do anything about it. And that's just a beautiful experience. That's why I do it.
