This is the Beyond the Story Podcast, a show that goes way beyond the story. Oh, yeah, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the show. Hey, maybe welcome to the show because it's your first time either way. I'm glad you're here. Very special guest. Well, everyone is a very special guest, but this is a very, very, very special guest because I grew up with this guy. It is the one and only.
unknownMr.
SPEAKER_01DJ M Dot. What's happening, dude?
SPEAKER_03Man, it's happening. I am excited to be here, Seb. I know it's a Saturday. Uh, I know you have other things to do, but I'm glad that you asked me to be here, man.
SPEAKER_01I'm glad you got out of bed. Thank you. Thank you so much for doing that.
SPEAKER_03Especially after the 8 p.m. start last night, which means, well, in terms of Miami Heat game, I didn't get home until roughly about one something. I have to read in order to kind of go to sleep or have a glass of wine. So I didn't get into bed until about 2 30.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_012 30. Um, I usually wake up at 2 30 but get some water. Okay. Maybe. That's about the only time I'm seeing 2 30. You and I have seen some, seen some 2 30, 3 30, 4 30, 5 30 a.m. evenings.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_01I remember I first moved back 12 years ago and discovered that you were like this hot shot DJ. You're with the Marlins at that time. Remember those days? We'd go to Joe Robbie. In fact, I didn't have a car. Yeah. I we like met up halfway to like Joe Robbie. You scooped me up, you had a um an explorer.
SPEAKER_03I did. Yep.
SPEAKER_01That was good good times.
SPEAKER_03And you never gave me gas money.
SPEAKER_01I didn't have any gas money.
SPEAKER_03That was terrible. I didn't have any gas money. So I drove that that explorer, had to go pick your ass up somewhere, and you never hooked me up with gas money.
SPEAKER_01And then we went to the Marlins Mermaid Show at Gulfstream.
SPEAKER_03Those were some days. Yeah, those those those were some good times.
SPEAKER_01I fell asleep in the club. Yeah. That was my first lesson. And um, okay, so if you're gonna build a brand, you're not allowed to do that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you you really can't because you are representation of myself, you know. Right.
SPEAKER_01So I get that. Here we are some 12 years later. It makes absolute perfect sense. I give those talks to some to some young folk, uh, if you will. So you and I met in seventh grade, maybe even no, not sixth grade, because I didn't go to hammocks middle school in sixth grade. Seventh grade was my first year. Tama came to Miami to go to UM. My mom followed her down, and um she uh went to work at the Miami Sequarium, and I later on uh followed her down here, went to hammocks for seventh grade. You and I met and we're like inseparable. We were just like one of those things where you meet when you're kids and you're like, hey, you're my best friend. You're like, you're my best friend. All right, cool. Let's go do everything together and spend every waking hour together, which we literally did. And uh to the point of you waking me up with my own drum set.
SPEAKER_03There you go.
SPEAKER_01Remember that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'd be out cold. You'd be like, you know what it's like to be woken up by a drum set that's right next to your bed?
SPEAKER_03I had to get some practice in, bro. You know, I was an elite drummer at the time, so I had to get some practice in. You know, and I didn't have I didn't have a drum set at my house, so shit, you know, you had yours. I gotta get some you eventually got one. Yeah, but I mean I got the you know, the little cheap version that my my my mom could afford.
SPEAKER_01Cheap version. Mine were like two repurposed snares as TomTom's.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you had the you had them church drums. But the church that was on the budget, not like the not like the, you know, you know what happened. Calvaries and the and the the big churches, no, no, you had like the cheap, you know, the small congregation, like 15 people. Right.
SPEAKER_01And you know, they barely everyone chipped in for the for the drum set. Yeah, you know what happened to that? Susie sold that drum set one summer that I was away. Probably. Yeah. I came back, I'm like, where's my drums? Probably the teacher. Not here anymore. Not here anymore. Yeah, she was probably over it.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. She's like, the drums are not here anymore.
SPEAKER_03Man, we had the hookup, didn't we, during the summertime?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because we had uh the movie pass at Womeco. Oh my gosh. We did. We went to movie after movie after movie, and let it be known.
SPEAKER_03Like, uh I'm I don't I'm not sure if I've ever told this story, but uh Sebastian, his house, well, he knows, they had the most amazing snacks. Okay. And I I wasn't allowed to drink soda in my house for the most part. Like, my it's not that it's not that I wasn't allowed, it's just that my mom wouldn't go out and buy that. That's not something we would buy. She would buy like jungle punch or something like that. If you're from that era, you know the jungle punch. But Sebastian, like they always had like the like the Cokes, and they were like, they were like chill. They can in the can. They were just like perfectly chilled, and I would go over his house and just have a field day on snacks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was good. We'd have snacks just as a meal.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because at my house there were no such things as snacks. It was like, you want a snack, boy? You better get your ass and done and get this peanut butter and jelly and call it a day.
SPEAKER_01Peanut butter and jelly is still a good time, though.
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_01As much as I got to a point that I was such a low point, I was like 20 years old, 19 years old. I did um spam, top ramen noodles, and hot sauce.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was all that was in the cabinet.
SPEAKER_03Were you ever in prison? That's that's like prison food, bro.
SPEAKER_01I've not. I went to jail one time for soliciting door to door, and um that was enough for me to realize that I never wanted to go back. That's not really the place for me.
SPEAKER_03Speaking of peanut butter and jelly, uh, do you like the the mixed, the combined, the combined version? What is it called?
SPEAKER_01No, I I I have to get I have to, I'm a peanut butter diva.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so you you actually add more peanut butter than jelly.
SPEAKER_01No, I I like to eat the peanut butter that's not filled with all kinds of like goobers, that's the name of it.
SPEAKER_03That's the one that's combined. Right. I'm a fan of that. Are you? Yes.
SPEAKER_01Okay. I no, because if I you eat cheap peanut butter, you feel like you ate peanut butter.
SPEAKER_03But if you eat like good, like what's considered good peanut butter?
SPEAKER_01Just peanuts.
SPEAKER_03So not gif or anything like that.
SPEAKER_01No, no. If you look at all the ingredients, you got like hydronated oil, which just gives you that funky ice.
SPEAKER_03See, this is the Californian year, because you lived over in Cali, so you got the whole organic thing going for you. Like, come on, man, break it down for me. Like we could be. I'm from the block in Kendall. It could be I am the same block you're from until you asked me about the California and got them all.
SPEAKER_01I just I did try to save the world out there.
SPEAKER_03You got the rich on us, you know. You're driving your your $100,000 car out there in Cali. You're living in your $400,000 house.
SPEAKER_01That didn't last long.
SPEAKER_03Hey, it lasted though.
SPEAKER_01It was there, it worked out for a while. I had a good run in California. It was a 10-year vacation. Right. Um you ever heard that that uh commencement speech called uh Don't Forget the Sunscreen? No. Okay, so I'm I'm black. There's there's a line in there's a line in uh in it that he says move to New York City one time in your life, but leave before it makes you hard. Uh live in Northern California once in your life, but leave before it makes you soft. And that's so true of both both parts of the country on there, Northern California and uh New York would definitely make you hard.
SPEAKER_03I want to move to New York.
SPEAKER_01Really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03All right. So the first time I ever thought about you know, with that being a possibility was when I went to uh the new Brooklyn a couple years ago. Uh I was with Jamie, and we were a special guest for uh Demon Lovato and Nick Jonas's concert. Uh that wanted us to come out and perform at the Barclay Center. And I had never been to the new Brooklyn area. So I've been to New York several times, probably over 50 times. And I had never been to that new area. And it's it's completely amazing. It's super nice. And that was the first time I said to myself, you know what? I could see myself living in New York if I were to live in the new Brooklyn. Like Pock Slope. Yeah. It's crazy. Like over where the Barclays Center is, but it's hella expensive. It's like living, you know, it's the new Manhattan. It's the poor man's Manhattan. Exactly. Yeah, exactly. And it looks absolutely amazing.
SPEAKER_01All the all the hip kids live in uh in Brooklyn.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, it's spread love, it's the Brooklyn way.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but it's not the Brooklyn that Biggie was talking about.
SPEAKER_01This is a little different. It's way different. Oh, so you mean Williamsburg, Brook Brooklyn is different than Biggie's Brooklyn? Much, much different. No, it's changing. I mean, I would say over the past 10 years, and they were they were gonna close, I think it's the green line that goes over into Brooklyn. That was gonna cause all kinds of mayhem because everyone and their brother, I don't know what they ended up doing with that. It was supposed to close for like two years. Have you ever been on the New York subway? Uh I've taken it a couple times. Yeah, so I didn't do it. Never been more confused in my life. Yeah. And if you ask a New Yorker for directions, no one knows where they're going. It's amazing.
SPEAKER_03I I went on a subway on one of my trips, and I was with a person who was from New York. So luckily, uh I kind of got the whole thing, this is this, we're gonna get off on this stop. You know, we're riding to this destination, we'll we'll get off, we'll walk around a little bit, we'll get back on. Have you ever seen a map?
SPEAKER_01Have you ever seen a map?
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_01It makes your brain hurt to look at it. I I can imagine. Unbelievable. It's like an underground city.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But it's super cool.
SPEAKER_01It really, really is hot though.
SPEAKER_03It was it's a good experience. Hot though. And you you meet some characters on there, some really talented people too in the subway. You watch way too much Jimmy Kimmel. No, actually, I don't watch Jimmy Camel.
SPEAKER_01It's not Kimmel, it's uh who's who's Justin's buddy? Timberlake's buddy. Uh uh Fallon. Fallon. There we go. I always get him confused. I think Fallon's funnier than Kimmel. Fallon's amazing.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01He doesn't shit on Trump as much as Kim Kimmel does. He's I mean, they all kind of do at the end of the day, but sure.
SPEAKER_03Well, they don't. Fallon's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_01The people who write their jokes too. Have you seen uh what was that? Oh, that's an actual movie on Netflix that was I forget the name of it now, but it shows it go it it shows the the the main character is a night night show host like Letterman or Fallon, right? And uh it shows what goes into each night's episode as far as writers are concerned. And there's a team of say 10 to 12 writers that are legit writing his entire evening and trying ideas out and some make it some and and then the host doesn't even know what they are until like two hours before, and like everything will be on the prompter, and they have no creative control over that stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's pretty interesting.
SPEAKER_01There's Saturday Night Live, in order to get that uh week weekend update, I think they write close to 500 jokes. Five hundred to get that weekend update, which is like a what, a five-minute bit? Maybe they're not telling 500 jokes, right? It's just crazy. I love that creative side though. It's like, what does it take to like actually get to we were just talking about YouTube a few minutes ago and how like that the great acon uh uh acronym is how you actually shape a that makes noise when you do that. Yeah, I won't do that again. Um, and uh and and how how an actual YouTube video comes together, but it's the same way anything does. If you've seen a episode of Seinfeld, Seinfeld never actually ends at the very end. You stick around for the credits. Why? Because chances are Seinfeld's gonna say something crafty.
SPEAKER_03I've never watched Seinfeld. I haven't either, but have you watched Martin? I have watched Martin. Okay, cool. That's that's something I can talk about.
SPEAKER_01I have not seen I've never seen an episode of Friends. Neither have I. Yeah, yeah. People are hooked on for I just can't get into it. It's a different type, it's a different type of comedy. I don't know why. But then I can watch Napoleon Dynamite and roll on the floor. Uh it's good stuff, Napoleon Dynamite. Um speaking of movies, um Jack Nicholson's fan of the show. I keep telling him he needs to get a podcast. You know what he told me?
SPEAKER_00I eat breakfast 300 yards from 4,000 Cubans who are trained to kill me. So don't think for one second that you can come down here, flash a badge, and make me nervous. All right, Jack. Settle down, buddy.
SPEAKER_01Settle down. He gets a little antsy, doesn't he?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he does. Probably is.
SPEAKER_01You can't handle the truth.
SPEAKER_03Probably hasn't had his coffee yet. You know, it's kind of early on the West Coast.
SPEAKER_01This is true. I don't does he live in LA? Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Of course he does. Yeah. I mean, who doesn't? He's an avid Lakers season ticket.
SPEAKER_01That's exactly what I did. My mind automatically went to Lakers fan.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the guy's there every game.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of Lakers, how about this, dude? Kobe, Kobe Bryant. Oh, yeah, that was Unbelievable, dude. Unbelievable. You know what stuck out? I told you I was watching Skip and Shannon during Super Bowl week. Skip. Skip. Skip. He's he's a he's a swell guy. And uh what really stuck in my mind was that he said, you know what, if it can happen to Kobe, none of us are immune. Like appreciate and love every day. Yeah. You know what I mean? Be grateful for where, you know, what what but I it was it was No, it's always in, you know, Gary V talks a lot about, you know, he's doing this for his legacy, right? What are people how many people standing room only at his funeral, what are people gonna say once his legacy is in place, etc. And it's it's it's uh it was really great to see how Kobe showed up to this world. You know, life was cut short, but hey, when the good lord pulls your number, nobody's negotiating or arguing with it. No, it's you it's you you're out. Um, but to see the legacy that he did live, and I think the consistent conversation that I heard was Kobe's life on the court and off the court.
SPEAKER_03Right, right, and and and with us being fathers, you know, it hit home a bit hardy, you know, and and and I like seeing, I like listening to all the stories of him off the court because I've I'm you know I'm a basketball fan, I've played basketball my entire life, so I I've known I'm very well aware of his accomplishments on the court. Right, but hearing these stories about him off the court, you know, like the type of father he was and the type of husband he was, and you know, doing these things for kids and how he was a champion for the women's game, and that that stuff just amazed me and uh made me realize I there's a lot more work I need to do, man.
SPEAKER_01For sure. Well, I think his legacy will continue to live on through the Mamba Academy, and I think lives will continue to be shaped and and molded and his as his legacy and Gianna's legacy live on uh through that organization. So um beautiful tribute. Michael Jordan was just uh who what what Michael Jordan is, man. Just a just a stellar human being, and to watch him just cry his eyes out and and crack jokes and uh was awesome.
SPEAKER_03That was shocking because we don't see that side of Mike. Never never like the crying meme was hilarious when his father passed. There were no cameras around involved, there were no social media. That was a you know, yeah. So we never we've never seen Mike in that capacity.
SPEAKER_01Well, that meme went around for years of him crying. So we've seen it before.
SPEAKER_03Well, that was from something else. I'm not sure where that meme you know resonated from, but like we've never seen Mike deal with death like that for the most part. Because remember when his father passed, that was like in the 90s or something, and there was there was no social media back then. That shit was crazy too. That was swept kind of under the rug. Like, yeah, we knew he was mourning and whatnot, but he wasn't mourning openly in public for the most part. And then we see him, you know, deal with that Kobe thing, and we're like, you know what? Shit, Mike's human.
SPEAKER_01I read, I read about just like us. I read about his first divorce, and uh boy, she cleaned up. Oh, Juanita, Juanita's. Yeah, Juanita, God bless. I remember remember the remember the old VHSs we'd have of like Michael Jordan and his mom shooting hoops with him and whatnot. Um, but I read something that was like he he he was young and and and not naive, but wasn't as wise as he is now, and now he's married to like a chick that's like 25 years younger than him or something like that. And there's like a special arrangement. He's like, I'm not going through that again, but in the event anything didn't work out, she's still good if it nothing worked out. But I forget why I read it the other day, it was just random somewhere on the internet.
SPEAKER_03You know, that's one of my childhood friends. Oh, really? Yes, that married him. She went to school with us, bro. No, I promise you. She's the reason I met Mike. You met Mike? Yes. That's one of our childhood friends. Yvette Prieto. She went to school with us. Sounds familiar. Yeah. She on Facebook? Uh I'm not sure if she's on Facebook now, but she went to school with us, man. How did she meet Mike? Uh I'm not sure. Somewhere, you know. At a casino? All right, all right, all right. I'm not sure how she met him, but yeah, I'm not gonna uh she she's still every when I saw her, her and Mike in LA for the all-star game. Uh probably about five or eight years back. I can't remember exactly my memory's shit. But um we were in the Beverly Hills, I think it was a Hilton maybe, or one of those hotels, and we're both waiting for the elevator at the same time. She saw me and she recognized me. She's like, Hey Mike, what's going on? And she introduced me to Mike and you know, look at the sneakers I'm wearing now, so I'm always wearing some kind of Jordans. And she was like, Hey, you know, he's the one that also does the heat games, and I met him and like, hey, young man. He's like, Nice shoes you got on. And then that was like a highlight of my life. And I'm like, oh, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_01That's just I think he's made more money with his Jordan brand than he ever did with basketball.
SPEAKER_03Well, because basketball back then the salaries were, you know. But he still killed it, doesn't it? I think his last year with the Bulls, he maxed out at like 30 mil that season. Is that it? Exactly. That's one season, I know, right? But that was like accumulated over, you know, that was like we've been paying you shit for you know your entire career. So your last season here, we owe you. We'll we'll give you all of this. Right, right. Because we owe you for the most part.
SPEAKER_01Right. You know he's enjoying retirement, cigars, golf, playing some cards, and owning a basketball team. Oh yeah, he does own a basketball team, doesn't he?
SPEAKER_03And then he's really, really involved in that. Mark Cuban style. He's damn there, just as aggressive as Mark Cuban, because Mark Cuban's the best. Mark Mark will literally cuss your ass out when you come back to the bench after you get a terrible play.
SPEAKER_01He'll he'll literally I mean if you own the team, I mean, come on.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but but but hearing that from Mark, who's a businessman, and hearing it from Mike, that's two totally different. Oh, yeah, that's true. You know, that's true. Like if you hear it from Mike, you're like, okay, that's Michael Jordan. The goat told me what's the goat correct play, you know, like the guy, you know. So hearing that from Mark is like, okay, you're a businessman, but have you ever played a lick of basketball in your entire life? You know?
SPEAKER_01Because they gotta play some street ball. I play at my house on my court at my house. Seen that guy's boat? Excuse me, that's not a boat, that's a yacht, mega yacht. He parks it over there behind the children's uh museum. I wouldn't doubt it, because he was here last night. I saw him. Oh, really?
SPEAKER_03For sure. He played Dallas last night. He travels with the team. Mark is Mark's that guy. I'm not sure if Mike travels with the team. Mark travels with the team.
SPEAKER_01He's getting his invad, he's getting his money's worth, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03He is definitely invested in. No matter what other businesses he has, this is the leading one.
SPEAKER_01So um speaking of that, yeah, what what what year is this with the heat for you? This is year 12.
SPEAKER_03Nice. Number 12.
SPEAKER_01So this is great. Yeah, I mean, you uh you really carved out your niche in the DJs, the celebrity DJ world. Not you know, there's a lot of DJs out there, but not everybody gets to have a you know a pretty consistent gig for well over a decade with a professional basketball team like the Miami Heat in a city like Miami. Right. And then uh, you know, of course, forging a relationship with the one and only Mr. Jamie Foxx. Uh, even before that, uh, I'd say it's working out all right as a DJ for you. I mean, you're not you're not doing uh weddings in bot mitzvah's anymore. It's uh, you know.
SPEAKER_03No, but I actually have a wedding next week. I'm actually doing a wedding next week.
SPEAKER_01I doubt you dabble in weddings.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean if it's a young couple and someone that I know, I'll do that because that's kind of cool. Right, right, right. It's not like there's no pressure in doing their wedding as opposed, you know, there's a lot of pressure when you do someone's wedding who you who you've never met before, and you know, you got to cater to, you know, the ages from eight to eighty-five.
SPEAKER_01Right, right, right, right. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03I mean, you know, so this young couple's like, hey man, we've known you. We we see you at the games. Like, I I know this guy who's getting married, the groom, I know him from Naples. You know, he's like, bro, I've party with you at club. I want M Dot. Right, right, right, right, right. I'm like, of course. Like, yeah, I'll do your wedding, you know. So that's kind of cool. Yeah, so that makes sense though.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if um to your, I mean, you're you're not you're not doing I guess my point is you're not doing you know, weddings to survive as a DJ. No. Um you've really carved your your your niche out there and really been exposed. I and you and I talk all the time, and I ask questions like um, like I'm five years old, you know? What's Jamie's house look like? But you know, being exposed to to that type of lifestyle in that world is um it's gotta be unique, I'd like to think. I mean, because you got it's constantly people just at you. I mean, at a I mean, just nonstop. So there's like tricks to the trade. You know, we were talking about Jamie Flying commercial, like some kind of animal. And they're like, you put some a hoodie on and some sunglasses, no problem.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but also when you're when you're elite like that, you have that elite status, you you don't board the plane at the same time. Right.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_03Everyone else boards the plane, that's number one. Number two, you don't wait in the waiting area where everyone else will.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_03So you and I can be sitting first class, but we're not gonna be waiting to board the plane with him. He's in some special, you know, okay American Airlines room, right, you know, I don't know, VIP lounge, right, probably by himself or with a very few limited people, you know, of that some that same status.
SPEAKER_01What about like restaurants and stuff like that?
SPEAKER_03That's most restaurants, like when we go to restaurants, man, people can be pretty. Chill for the most part because you know they but then you have people that come up and say things and you know want to meet them and say hi and whatnot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, sure, Brenda. I'll stop eating for a photo op.
SPEAKER_03That's the thing about people have to realize, like, it's it's I understand how we're obsessed with you know pop culture and celebrities and stuff like that, but like when you're kind when you're eating, like you should probably wait till like the person's done. Not like, hey, let me go ask Sebastian for a picture right now while he's you know, he got a fork in his mouth. He's mid true. You know, that's just kind of I don't know, that's just I don't know, common courtesy, right? Wouldn't that wouldn't you expect? Sure. But he's he's a cool guy, man. He talks to everybody, you know, and he has his his uh fan base is it's pretty pretty wide, you know. You got the older people who appreciated him and Ray, and you got the younger people who like what he's doing with beat Shazam and stuff. So, you know, there's we'll be somewhere eating or somewhere out, and you'll have a 70-year-old come up to him and say, Hey, you know, that was a great thing you did in Ray, even though Ray's 10 years old. You know, I loved you in Living Color. Yeah, well, then you have people our age that's like, hey, you know, Living Color was crazy. It's just he's just so fucking good. There's uh I've always said that when people ask me about him, I'm like, there's we all we all are born with some kind of God-given talent. You agree with that? Oh, 100%. Cool. Yours is to relate and connect with people on the microphone. You know, you can engage, not really, you can engage and connect with people on the microphone. I think I have that same characteristic, you know. He there there's some kind of special arrangement that he has with God that we all don't that we don't have. Like God gave Sebastian, God gave you these three things that you do amazing. He gave me these five things I do amazing. He gave him three pages full. I know. And it's just I'm not sure what you're we got comic, actor, rapper, singer.
SPEAKER_01I wouldn't say rapper, I would say RB artist. Okay. So uh I would say Oh yeah, you know, I was thinking uh I was thinking Golddigger, but Kanye did all that. RB singer and piano player and piano player. Oh, good.
SPEAKER_03Because remember, he went to college, you know, to play the piano. As well as I did not know that. TV host, as well as radio. Excellent, excellent on Shazam. So it's like you you I mean come on, man. You're not supposed to have as well as just a host in in general, like a lot of these one-off things we're doing, Sebastian. There's big companies that are like, hey man, we want you to come and host uh, you know, our event for 30 minutes to an hour. So he brings me and we go along and he's hosting this event, but it's really just he's a master of ceremonies, man. He's you know, he's out there having a good time. So corporate cash. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01So the corporate cash. So um totally lost my train of thought. I'm very, very, very rare am I at a loss for words. I was uh it was something else pertaining to Jamie. Maybe I'll come back to it. Um have you guys ever gotten mobbed when you've been out?
SPEAKER_03Um you know what always get the car, M. No, you know what always uh no. Well, here's the thing about when you're when you're out, and Jamie don't really roll security like that. So here's one rule I've learned when we're out. You you better make sure your ass is in the car before he's in the car. So when it's time to head out, don't be the person behind him trying to, you know, hang out and hey, cool. No. When when he says it's ready to hang out, you see him getting up, you shoot to the car first. You get your ass in the car because you can't, you can't keep him up.
SPEAKER_01Like, you know, like he can hold you up, but you can't hold him up.
SPEAKER_03You can't hold him up because he's the principal, like he's the the talent, he's the millionaire, the multi-millionaire. I was about to say but I wouldn't say multi. Yeah, I mean for sure. For sure. I mean, he's yeah, I just use millionaire because it's so he has he ever publicly addressed this, or is that just like a no, that's just something I I I remember being in the car before. I remember, and then someone held him up and he hit the MFs and all that, you know, and I was like, Yeah, I'll make sure that would never be me. And and the person that held him up was on some shit like, oh, you know, let me try to pull off and and and and talk to this little chick over here real quick and see what was going on, and he's ready to go. Right. You should have done that 15, 30 minutes prior to that. You know, you should have had that conversation. But just so yeah, I I I learned that that's not the thing to do.
SPEAKER_01And uh we He was out and about in Miami, boy, over uh what was it? He was here for New Year's. Yeah, he made the rounds, yeah. He was here for a minute, too. Yeah, but just out chilling, like Prime 112 hanging out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we we went to Prime, I think three nights. Him and Miles are like I was gonna say, Miles got a good thing going on.
SPEAKER_01Miles is the man.
SPEAKER_03Like I I I I'm I know Miles because of him. Right. So if I were to go to Prime, like let's say you want to go to Prime, yeah, like I hey, you know, I'm Jamie Scott. Boom.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I went for the first time uh last year for a birthday dinner, and uh it was it was fire.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and and and one of those nights, I mean, you got 50 cent in there. Yeah, you know, it was with 50 and Jamie, and yeah, prime is that place, man.
SPEAKER_01That is, you know, he's got an empire, dude. He's got prime, prime Italian, prime hotel, prime fish, big pink. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Miles is doing a thing or two, but I think most people hit the prime on 12.
SPEAKER_01Well, and Italian's pretty popular.
SPEAKER_03No, no, and I'm sure the Italian is popular too, but like the more of the I hate that urban word. I hate that.
SPEAKER_01It's it's uh it's uh it's it's the place to be uh to to see and be seen.
SPEAKER_03And that's and it's I mean, because look at the vibe, look at the atmosphere. So if you're if you're if you're an artist or a movie star or something like that, like you're in there, you listen to something. It reminds me of like an S uh, what is it? What's the place in uh California? We just ate that. I can't remember. It'll come to me. But you know, the vibe is like the food's amazing, number one. You know, you got that kind of like cool soul food, like real good. And then you got hip-hop and RB blast, not blasting, but playing in the background. Like that's kind of that's hella dope. Like an STK for the most part, you know.
SPEAKER_01Right, right, right, right, right. Yeah, it's not like good saying.
SPEAKER_03I don't know if Italian's like that. If Prime Italians like that.
SPEAKER_01I I've not been. It's it's directly.
SPEAKER_03I highly doubt they're playing 50 Cent in Italy in Prime Italian.
SPEAKER_01It's directly across the street.
SPEAKER_03Yes, across, but I highly doubt they're probably playing 50 Cent in like and like gold dig in prime Italian.
SPEAKER_01My buddy's been a bartender there since God spoke to Moses and went to high school with him.
SPEAKER_03Oh, good for him, because I know he's killer.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, like that's like a career gig right there, boy.
SPEAKER_03Oh, for sure. Yeah, you don't leave that.
SPEAKER_01Not even a little bit.
SPEAKER_03No, man.
SPEAKER_01So what's up with uh what's next with Jamie? He just randomly calls you and he's like, so we're doing this next. Get on a plane. So right now He doesn't call, does he?
SPEAKER_03Uh rarely.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. He only calls when it's last minute and he forgot. Uh so he'll so for example, there was an event I had to do in California. I I went to Cali like three times and I think it was twice in November, one in December. So I remember I had a heat game and he called. He personally like he called me on my phone. I pick up, what up, Fizzle? Like, yo, where I'm done. Uh it was last minute, but we got this, you know, I got this thing I gotta do over here in California. It was this big, you know, uh charity event for the most part. I remember with the with the guy Ted. I can't remember Ted's last name, but from Ted from Netflix. Okay. He's married to yeah. And then that was the same day I ran into uh DiCaprio. So it was it was that event. Uh okay. Really, really big event, you know, with all those CAAs.
SPEAKER_01So he doesn't call you a lot. So when your phone goes off and it says Fox on the caller ID, what goes through your head? I'm getting f I'm getting fired?
SPEAKER_03No, never. It no, no, no, no. It's what what goes through my head is that it's something that he forgot.
SPEAKER_01So he's not calling to ask about the weather.
SPEAKER_03People didn't know that it's people didn't didn't reach out to me about because they probably didn't even know about it.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_03And someone from the office had to remind him, and he hit me at the at the last minute.
SPEAKER_01You ever thought about replying with something like, Jamie, of course I got you. But it's gonna cost you. Well, it always costs. I know that, but I'm like, I'm gonna I'm gonna charge you double this time because it's last minute. Okay.
SPEAKER_03No, okay.
SPEAKER_01Don't let this shit happen again.
SPEAKER_03No, I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just I I get paid handsomely.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you can still listen. What is it? Uh don't squeeze an elephant into a farts.
SPEAKER_03I know I'm a I'm a I'm a stack up on hogs get slaughtered, lambs live forever.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah, so I don't mind that.
SPEAKER_03So I do, you know, 10, 15 gigs a year with that, that's cool, man.
SPEAKER_01It is, it is, and it's just great to be in great company and you've probably forged some incredible relationships, huh? Yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_03That's that's the cool thing. The coolest thing about it. I remember his uh one of the best compliments I ever got in my entire life came from his former manager. He was like, yo, M. Dot, a lot of people have talent, man. Like, but he's like, you know what separates you? He's like, you're a good ass dude. And I was like, you know what? I never thought of it like that. Yeah, yeah. Did that lead to like you do, you know, to where I'm at now? Sure. Like, did that shit, you know? Am I where I'm at now because of that? 100%. Yeah, talent can help you get to a destination, but like, yeah, being a good person and people seeing that, well, it's kind of cool.
SPEAKER_01Hustle beats talent when talent doesn't hustle. Yeah, for sure. Love that quote.
SPEAKER_03I remember uh people like you know, people ask me all the time, why are you always smiling? I'm like, I'm happy, dude. I'm blessed. Like, this is I wasn't supposed to fall into this.
SPEAKER_01Like we woke up today, we're already ahead of the game.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I fell into this business and I'm doing well. Like, that's yeah, I get to hang out with cool people like that, and I don't have to punch a clock, and yeah, that's cool, man.
SPEAKER_01Do you have any idea why um the Biebs was at the heat practice facility yesterday? What's his nuts? Not bad bunny. The other guy looks just like him. Nikki Jam. No, not him. Jay Balvin. There we go. I didn't see that.
SPEAKER_03I just saw the picture that was.
SPEAKER_01My boy Rick is is is uh, you know, Rick, he's Jay Balvin's manager. Uh uh.
SPEAKER_03I just saw the picture that Justin posted with the vice jersey, but I didn't know that was in Miami.
SPEAKER_01That was in the heat locker and then it didn't seem like it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03No, it didn't seem like it was in the practice facility. It didn't seem like it was on the court. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Are you sure? Yeah, it was last night because I sent it to Kayla because I she was gonna be because Rick is now Jay Balvin's manager or not manager, assistant. And um uh he used to be he used to be a camp counselor over at Calvary when Kayla would go to camp.
SPEAKER_03And um see this is not from this is not inside the arena.
SPEAKER_01No, that's not it. No, no, no. There's another one.
SPEAKER_03Um who posted it? Is it it's not on this story? Uh it was it was uh Justin Bieber 128 million followers.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. He's killing the game. He broke Elvis's record.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, the kids are amazing.
SPEAKER_01The Beebs did. Okay, here. Um here we go. This is Rick. For those of you tuning into the podcast, we'll drop this picture in the show notes. Oh, that is, yeah. Yeah, so that was yesterday. The Beebe was just playing some basketball.
SPEAKER_03But it was with uh But that's and that's nighttime too. I know. So I wonder if we had a game last night.
SPEAKER_01I that's what I'm saying. I don't know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_03So he did he sneak up, and that's that's the old pitch. Did he s like was he playing upstairs when we were having a game downstairs? Last night was a star-studded event.
SPEAKER_01You don't think he could pull that off?
SPEAKER_03I'm sure he can because he's the beeps. Plus, his concerts. See, here's the thing about that. Like, you you gotta end number one because you're Justin Bieber. Number two, your concert is going to be at the American Airlines Arena, which we just we just released at. So you you have access to stuff like that because you are who you are, and you're doing a concert there.
SPEAKER_01I but I went to I went to uh I took Caleb a few years back to uh to the to the Bieber show, and uh little punk made us wait two and a half hours before he came out on stage.
SPEAKER_03Hey man, the kids uh come on, man. Listen, two and a half hours. They were filming a DVD.
SPEAKER_01That was the that was the explanation for that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and speaking of last night, again, last night was a star-studded event because there were so many celebrities in the building. Every every reggaeton artist was there. Uh you had uh Annuel, Carol G, De La Ghetto, and of course Bad Bunny. So that last night was really, really What do these guys rap about?
SPEAKER_01Um, I'm not sure because these guys are killing the game. I mean, they I heard they're just worldwide. Nikki Jam's the only one that I've learned a little bit about because he, I guess he had a fall from uh from grace too, and was overweight and had was just made bad lifestyle choices and actually kind of uh derailed his career. Went to Columbia, resuscitated it, brought it back to the US, and it blew up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, blew up. But he also blew up when uh when there was a time where so when he came back, reggae tone, but this is also like social media era too, which helps you blow as an artist. You know what I'm saying? Like so he came back at the perfect time, you know, like and his career was like rejuvenated because you know he was a badass artist, as well as all these social media platforms that help you excel. Oh, yeah, man. And the streaming and all this other stuff.
SPEAKER_01Like well, there's no more there's no more, there's there's no more mother may I with the with the music industry.
SPEAKER_03Right.
SPEAKER_01You're not trying to sell CDs, right?
SPEAKER_03But just look at just look at how social media has helped people like that. Like, for example, right now I'm searching Bad Bunny on Instagram. He's killing it too. 21 mil. Unbelievable. 21 mil followers.
SPEAKER_01Like, but listen, it's so much bigger than the artist's brand. Do you understand that that actual platform, even Jamie's platform, Nikki Jam. That platform 36 mil. That platform, that deal with Preve, they know for a fact that because Jamie's wearing their product and that he talks about it on his social media platforms, they are going to sell glasses. I bought these glasses because I think they're cool, but I also think Jamie's cool, and I knew you had a pair too, and you know, we're getting older here, so we got to protect our eyes from the blue light on our computer screens all day. Um, but you know, that that's a great example that you know, well, Jamie's a a talent in general. Jamie and I actually have something in common. What's that? Um uh Jeff Applepoff uh produced both produced our show. Well, it's not really my show. I was just on the show. It was on Fox. Take Me Out. Remember, I went and humiliated myself on national television trying to find love? I do. Yep. That was how'd that work out for you, buddy? I uh did not get a date and I had to uh wave to America while all B played.
SPEAKER_03And uh what the people really want to know was what was the check like? Because you don't do that for free.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I made uh $250.
SPEAKER_03Ooh, gas money.
SPEAKER_01That was the hardest $250 I ever made. But you know, Mike, I didn't do it for the money at all.
SPEAKER_03You sure in the sale didn't do it for love either?
SPEAKER_01I didn't do it. Well, no, because I fell in love, air quotes. Um before the show, there's a lot of preliminary stuff and meetings and whatnot. I had to go meet Jeff, and Jeff, even though he lives in Boca, wanted to meet in New York with the other producer. I guess he's like him and this guy tag team shows. They go in, they film them, they sell them to the network, and they crush, just like they're crushing right now with Shazam. So Take Me Out was the next show. So, like, listen, uh, I had to fly to New York for the day. So I did that. I met with Jeff for like five nanoseconds, and then I ended up uh getting on the show. They never tell you you're on the show, they just fly you to LA, and next thing you know, you're going into a studio. Um, but I got to fly to New York for the day, and when I was coming back, I met a girl boarding the plane, and we started to date while I was going on the show, and she was cool with it. And then we had to fly to LA with Kayla to create the package of like well, which pretty much humiliates you on um on um reality television.
SPEAKER_03Like that's the goal of how many seasons did that show last?
SPEAKER_01It didn't, it went like six weeks, I think. Oh, so I just however, however, I got the opportunity to meet and work with George Lopez, who was talking about another funny individual. And I'll never forget Jeff coming into the room to all of the guys and saying, Listen, when you're on stage, George Lopez is a seasoned comedian of over 25 years. Do not, under any circumstances, try to be funnier than him.
SPEAKER_03So basically, uh, don't try to outshine.
SPEAKER_01Right, exactly. The the host that's on there. So um it was a good time. It was uh I got the opportunity to know what it was like to actually film uh on it in a in a soundstage on a Fox back lot at on a primetime show, 9 p.m. Thursday night on Fox with George Lopez. It gave me a vision of what's possible, and it also reminded me how cold it is in those studios. Yeah. Oh man, and that's uh you ever try to clap with those frozen hands? And that's all day. Yeah, we got in there, they they they wheeled us in there at 9:30 in the morning, put us in a green room about the size of this studio. Yeah, and we all just kind of looked at each other. We had no idea. Some nuts, an apple, yeah, some well, no, they did cater to our needs pretty well. Like, we're like, we're hungry, like here's some pizzas. Like you would their job was to babysit us because we weren't allowed to see the girls, and the girls were like down the call. So George had his own little setup and did whatever George wants to do, and they put us like 12 of us in a room this size. That's funny. George has his own room, and then the girls are, I don't know, they probably had two rooms for the girls because they had clothes and wardrobe and the whole nine. So they would rotate us through. We shot, they they bulk shoot like crazy. So we started shooting at 11 in the morning, um, and we shot uh four weeks. So we shot four episodes. Oh, nice. And I was on episode four, which filmed at 11 p.m. So imagine coming in here right now and then sit here until midnight, and then we're gonna go film. Oh wow, you tripped. It was a little crazy. Yeah, you tripped. But uh I'll never forget. I looked at Jeff when uh when we got done, when we got done with the wrapping the show, and he's like, thanks everybody. And I go, All right, Jeff, see you next show. He goes, Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's not happening.
SPEAKER_01But uh it's fun to see it come full circle and him start talking about the show. I know I hadn't seen, I mean, he's he's been creating shows for a minute now, but uh yeah, Shazam has turned into a banger.
SPEAKER_03Season uh season number four, they're shooting right now as we speak.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, I I met Damon John pre-Shark Tank days, and um I met him right when they were about to do season one, and I'll never forget him telling me we don't even think it's gonna make it past one season. They just celebrated 11. Wow.
SPEAKER_03That show's amazing. Speaking of Damon John, uh, this Grammys party. I'm sorry, was it not the Grammys, Oscar Gallia? I just did. So if you look at my Instagram from the picture from that, the second picture on that, he's in the background like a creeper. I thought you would be the one to notice it and tag me, but you did it, and no one did. And I'm like, It's your photo? Yes, and I'm like, how the f and no one noticed it was him. I didn't want to do it myself because that's hella cheesy. But he's looking directly at the camera and this looks like a creeper, and I'm like, how did no one notice this? Which photo? Look at the the Oscar Gala.
SPEAKER_01Oh, this is New York. I wasn't in New York recently. I know, that's what I'm saying. I'm trying to find the picture.
SPEAKER_03It's like the second picture from the top. I just posted uh no, there's two heat pictures, and then right after that one, I'm I'm wearing like a black tux.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_03Now look at that picture. Now look at the second one. Where? I don't see him. Scroll to the left. There's two pictures. There's one of me solo, and then there's one with me. Look in the back. Oh, you can't see it in that one? No. Oh man, hold on, hold on. You cannot see him. Okay, because you know what? Because I didn't minimize the picture on Instagram. My bad.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I gotta see the picture now.
SPEAKER_03I just used the uh I I I used the full length of that picture.
SPEAKER_01Shout out to Damon John, man. He's a good guy.
SPEAKER_03So here's here's the picture without using the full length. I meant to use the full length.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you gotta repost that and tag him.
SPEAKER_03See, look at it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Come on. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He you know what that look says? That look says, are you taking a photo without a shark?
SPEAKER_03That's what that says. That looks like, hey, why don't you include me in this photo?
SPEAKER_01The cool part about Damon is that he's not just uh a celebrity. Uh, you know, he's a true, like genuine cool dude. Well, he is a very cool dude. Entrepreneur. Entrepreneur. You know what I mean? From from the, I mean, do you realize that he refinanced his mother's house to get Fubu going? Wow. Like she almost lost her house if it wasn't gonna go. The guy's making t-shirts in his basement. And then the brand kind of fizzled out a little what, and then it kind of resuscitated again, and then he was he'd always been making moves. I met him in 2000 uh 2000 uh eight. Uh-huh. And um Through some mutual connections here in Miami. You know how Miami's a small spot. And we had met, we had the Hooter's energy drink at the minute. We were trying to bring it to market. And that's what he does. I mean, he's what he's always done, uh, is help, you know, take brands and blow them up. And we met with him and then went to the shore club on Sunday, and he rolled in with his crew. And I had read in his first book that he plays Monopoly with his staff. And it's a paid game. So it's a hundred bucks ahead, so you have some skin in the game. And choosing on a Friday night with some cocktails and hang out, come over to his house, or we'll go some, you know, play at the office or whatever it is. But the game of Monopoly allows you to see people's true colors. You see who gets angry, you see who cheats, you see who's greedy. Let me let me buy everything. And he's fired motherfuckers over a Monopoly game. That's crazy. So he walks in. You know how the short club's got, I don't know if the short club's still open, but he used to have those beds out by the pool. Yeah. I mean South Beach. Anyway, so uh he came up and had recognized dudes we were with at the time. And uh so he sits down next to me and I said, uh, so tell me about this Monopoly game. And he's like, You read the book? And I said, Yeah, shit, let's play Monopoly right now. So he stands up, gives one of his handlers cash, and goes, Hey, go get a Monopoly board, don't come back until you get one. I'm like, we're legit gonna play Monopoly right here on the bed at the Shore Club on a Sunday afternoon with Damon John. That's crazy. And he never the guy never found a Monopoly board, but we ended up staying in touch. Um I still have his original email address, right? He's still the same one. And um not allowed to say that on the air. Sorry guys. No, yeah.
SPEAKER_03And uh I've been in several settings with him before, like you know, and said hi and just nonchalantly. But uh that time his thing was when that I actually talked a little bit more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, tell him I said what's up next time you see him. Uh he's down here often.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Uh he was his The Power Broke was his last book.
SPEAKER_03I actually have that book.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And uh he did his book signing right here at at Books and Books. And um there were a few of us media people that were there. It was most mainly fans that were there to see him, but uh Amaris Jones was there, she's a friend of his. I was there. We got a chance to sit down and and and chop it up about the power broke and always makes time for for people. He's got a good camp around him, too. True. He really does. He's got some that's key, man. He's a marketer. You know, he's a he's he's also a talented celebrity, but he's also and a businessman, an entrepreneur, but he's also a marketer. And uh yeah, I ran into him at a gig in San Diego a couple of years ago. They had him for the keynote, so that's kind of fun when I'm the MC and they're at a keynote. It's kind of like remember me from the shore club. Like, yeah, I remember you, Monopoly guy. No, no, but I had sent him a copy of my book and whatnot, and uh the clients were like, you know him? Speaking of Monopoly, I'm looking at this uh picture on the wall. Harder I work, the luckier I get. Yeah. Yeah, I had to I had to get this place living up a little mud, a little more than it already was. That that blank wall was driving me crazy. Imagine. Well, I'm going to He Came tonight.
SPEAKER_03I haven't been to He Came forever. You're you'll be there tonight too. I will. It's a 7.30 start, so uh yeah. It's in it's an early one for us. Is it 7 30? Yeah, because last night was eight.
SPEAKER_01And today's, I thought tonight that makes it even better. I'm like, I have to wait till eight o'clock on a Saturday. I thought it was I thought it was eight as well, but no, I got well everybody's on purple Miami time, so they uh they get there, they get there at halftime. I love that. That's bit that that's actually become a really good uh uh bit that you guys do every single time he walks in at halftime. For those of you who don't follow Purple Miami, the guy is uh he is Miami's concierge. He's dialed in.
SPEAKER_03He's definitely dialed in. And uh purple just does it. He loves it. And my and my my followers love it too. They're like, who is this guy and why is he always late? Hilarious. Like he's the guy you need to know if you ever want the hookup in my stream. And you're a celebrity, just in Miami.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_03This is I'm sure he knows people in Vegas too. But like, if you want the hookup in Miami, he's definitely a person you need to know.
SPEAKER_01Well, we're almost out of time. I'm hungry and we're gonna go to lunch. So uh let's let's let's wrap this thing up here. I think we'll we'll we'll button things up, put a nice little bow on it by uh talking about this rumor that I heard about uh you starting a podcast.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, man. Um definitely looking forward to uh getting into that business, uh, you know, with doing five years on the radio.
SPEAKER_01I was about to say, you've been on the radio since God spoke to Moses.
SPEAKER_03Right. And uh not being on the radio at the time, but uh wanting to still get that message out and and and engage with people and uh interact with people. So the relationships you're building, it's you'd be it'd be ludicrous not to. Yeah, I I think and now's the time.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of ludicrous, that'd be another great guest.
SPEAKER_03I'm sure. He's uh remember Lulu was uh an old radio guy. He was an old radio host before he started rapping.
SPEAKER_01Can we talk about uh we're gonna rap?
SPEAKER_03So he was killing in in Atlanta on the radio. And then that's how his popularity would transition into the doesn't Gretman bring him in for the group experience at Food and Wine, wasn't he?
SPEAKER_01Just did that last Sunday?
SPEAKER_03No, Pharrell does.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm pretty sure it's ludicrous because I remember asking, yeah, Grutman wanted Gruppman's. That Swan over there in uh in design district. Uh have you been there? I have not. I hear great things about it. I mean, again, anything Gruppman cannot lose. So it's just shout out to Dave Gruppman, dude, Miami's director of fun.
unknownMy gosh, man.
SPEAKER_01He's about to reopen the uh the old Firestone on Alton and uh 15th. So he's turning that Firestone gas station, the Firestone, the tire place into the Gruptman food court. So it's gonna be like a food hall. Yeah, man. Shout out to Dave Gruptman, the director of fun. Every time he sits down for a media appearance, he was on who was here, Nightline was here last week. Yeah. Before that, our homegirl MJ was here for Super Bowl and whatnot. Yeah, he's like, they're uh they're here to talk about uh the fun business.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he is definitely uh the right person for that business.
SPEAKER_01Well, hey, listen, if you're not following uh M Dot, you need to be able to do that. And that's Instagram is the best place to do that, right? Yeah, I I I interact a lot on Instagram. It's just DJM dot, just like it sounds M D O T. And it used to be different. I like this just DJM dot now.
SPEAKER_03It used to be I am DJM dot, but uh and when DJM. I jumped on it. Oh it oh with something that was not available before. Yes, that's why I had to go with something else. So, you know, I'm I'm I pay attention to you know who I don't know, doesn't use their page anymore and who releases the name or whatnot. So I'm waiting for that to happen on my Twitter actually, because I I still have I am DJM.
SPEAKER_01That's all right. It still works, it flows on here. Well, listen, we're gonna get this show going before uh sooner rather than later. Uh I I would assume that you might be able to get a guy named Jamie Foxx on the show. So that that'll be exciting. Yeah, man, that's gonna be crazy. It really is. So stay tuned with that. He was uh Mikey also interned for uh DJ Khaled way back in the day, like 99 Jams days. So um you're still in touch with these cats. So we're gonna leverage these relationships and start having conversations via m dot's podcast. The name of the podcast, the first episodes, all that fun stuff is uh is coming very, very soon. So make sure you're staying connected with not only myself, the podcast launch lab will be making that podcast a reality. So we're really fired up, and it's a real privilege to make that show up happen for you, dude.
SPEAKER_03You gotta roll with the best, man. You are the best. Likewise. Making stuff like that work. So uh, you know, I gotta roll with the best, bro.
SPEAKER_01I tell you, listen, we were put we've been putting a plan together since like seventh grade. Yeah. This guy and I we we had these like fake drums called drumsticks, they're like hit sticks and a piano, and we wrote a song about Dare, the whole drug program. Right. Should we do it for him? No, we shouldn't do it for him real quick. No, I think we might lose followers. I agree with that.
SPEAKER_03Well, dude, but if we if we if we had the recording, but that would be dope. Oh, that would be. What did how did we record that? I'm not sure, man. We captured.
SPEAKER_01We didn't have like a video or anything. No, no, you know what it was?
SPEAKER_03Didn't we have to perform it?
SPEAKER_01Yes, that's what I'm saying. Yes, we had to perform it. That was cool because we had a piano.
SPEAKER_03What did we do on the piano though? Uh it must have been like one of those, one of those uh I don't know, programmed like like if you hit button number three on the drums.
SPEAKER_01No, it wasn't the piano's still in my house, believe it or not.
SPEAKER_03Oh, wait, it wasn't the Casio?
SPEAKER_01No, we were on a legit piano. Remember the white cream piano? Oh, okay. And we had the hit sticks too, but we yeah, we made the song, and then I think what we did, if my memory serves me correctly, I don't really remember the I remember us doing it for sure. I remember us sitting there, we got a can of coke on the piano, and like we're like, all right, let's write this song here. And then we're like, well, how are we gonna record it? I'm pretty sure I had some sort of tape recorder. Remember back in the day you pushed the two end buttons?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, man. You pressed that button with that red button. Yeah, it was like shit.
SPEAKER_01I'm sorry. When we got a little bit of tape left, it's in the beginning, so we can rewind it and just hit play and hear our song.
SPEAKER_03But we had to perform it, didn't we? Over the did we didn't we have to uh perform it in school? Did we not?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we did. We did. I think that's why it's ingrained in our minds. Oh man. I mean, my goodness. But um, this has been a good time, bro. You're gonna have to come back and hang out. We're gonna get your show going. Let's get it, man. Maybe we'll just we'll just start a show of our own, too.
SPEAKER_03I'm excited.
