What is happening, everyone? Hey, welcome back to the show. I'm your host, as always, Sebastian Rosk. It's really great to be with you guys. No, seriously, it really is. Today we're going to talk about what in the world a podcast is. You've heard about it, you've heard the name, you've heard the term, and I just assume that people know what it is. Hmm. We always learn our lesson when we assume, don't we? We're broadcasting live here at Social Buzz TV here in our studio inside Business Miami. Looking for a space to call home here in Miami, an office space, need a place to host your event, maybe host a meeting, maybe a conference call. BusinessMiami.com is the place for you. Hit me up and I will put you in touch. My email address is srusk at socialbuzztv.com. Speaking of business, this is a co-working space. So in the event you hear some background noise, some sirens, a door shut, somebody come up and talk, somebody just joined the broadcast right away. That's because we are all sharing an open space here at Business Miami. And I'm totally okay with that because it adds a little, a little, a little pizzazz, a little flavor to the show. Um, and I I travel a lot, so being able to record uh in an airport or a coffee shop or while I'm at an event or something like that, the odds of avoiding all kinds of background noise probably isn't going to happen. So hashtag sorry, not sorry. Hey, if you're your first time tuning in, this is the Seb Rush Show. We talk about tips, tricks, tools, and ideas, everything you need to know about social media to help you better understand what you don't know or that you don't know. The goal of this show is for you to walk away with at least one or two things that you didn't tune in, that you didn't know about when you tuned in. If you want to connect with us on Facebook, you can find me at facebook.com forward slash S-R-U-S-K. That way you can catch our live Facebook broadcast. We broadcast live so I can interact with a lot of you via Facebook Live. And then we take that archive, put it on our YouTube channel, which is YouTube.com forward slash social buzz TV under the playlist, the Sebrush Show Video Archive. So check us out there. Or maybe just continue to tune in. Maybe you're tuning in a week from now, six months from now. Really appreciate you doing so because without you, hey, the show doesn't happen, and I'm just sitting here talking to myself. That could very well happen too, but I doubt it because there's people talking to me here on Facebook, and I see that there's uh there's there's some people rock and rolling here with our Facebook Live. All right, let's get right down to it real quick and talk about what a podcast is. So Google's going to describe it for us by saying a podcast as divine by Google is a digital audio file made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically. Or the verb would describe it as make a digital audio file available as a podcast. So if you want to technically break it down, that's exactly what a podcast is. So if it makes a lot more sense, how we record this show is that we record an audio file using a specific software and a mic and a headset. We record the entire audio file, just like if you were recording an audio clip on your cell phone or your smartphone rather. Uh, and then we take that recording on the audio file and have our team then edit it and include an intro and background music. And just like I couldn't have Google come up right now, and I was just that that's what we call dead air uh in the business. We'll go in and we'll chop that part out so it looks like Google never even failed us. So uh that it's it's the modern day radio show, I think was what you would uh refer to it as. Uh, but I maintain control of it all because I don't have to go to a radio station, I don't have to abide by the rules of a radio station. Um, I can say bad words, um, there's no real regulations. Um, not that I do that um on air, um, but my second favorite F-word is Friday. So, anyhow, uh back to the back to the topic and lecture at hand here. So the freedom and the flexibility to be able to uh create content around a topic that I am um that uh that I that I operate in, that it is my space. Social media is my jam. It has been since probably 2004, since the inception. So I want to provide a value-added uh opt uh extension to my brand, and that's a podcast. We tune in once a week for 15 or 20 minutes, and I can help you better understand what you don't know that you don't know about social media. You'll find some value from it, you'll pass it on, you'll share it. And then as we continue to grow our subscriber base and our listener base, we'll then monetize the show because there'll be brands and specific um companies that that see themselves aligning with the Seb Rush show because of the format and content that we're talking about. So it'll be this episode of the Seb Rush Show is brought to you by Business Miami. Now, of course, I plug them because they're like family here and uh we're all scratching each other's back, but that's really what the model is going to be. So if you have a brand and you have something to talk about, let's say you're already creating content via social media, let's say you already had a radio segment that you used to have, or whatever the case may be. If you have something existing great, if you have an idea of what it could potentially be, that's what you're gonna dump into a podcast. It takes an hour a week of your time, especially with the podcast launch lab, where we hold your hand for 30 days. You work with me for an hour a week for 30 days, and you get four episodes launched, and you get everything you need: soup to nuts, A to Z, as far as what you need to launch that podcast. Well, what would I talk about? Well, what is the story of your brand? How do you market your brand? Who are you trying to appeal to? And what type of education content can you talk about pertaining to your brand that will add value so people actually see the value behind being able to um uh absorb your content, engage with your brand, etc. So podcasts organic, they're that icing on the cake, it's that value add. Your podcast may not convert to new customers, and that's okay. Why? Because there's so many things you can do with the podcast. For instance, we Facebook live stream this uh recording so I can interact with the audience. I get the archive of that, I can then share it with SocialBuzz TV, I can run ads on it, I can share it with my fan page on Sebastian Rusk, run ads on that. I can uh download it, uh, take the embedded code, throw it in a blog post, we upload it to YouTube. Um, there's multiple options and opportunities to be able to multi to repurpose just one podcast show. Of course, we take the show, we edit it, we make it sound great, we upload it to SoundCloud, it then goes to Google, the Google Play Store and the iTunes store so people can download and subscribe and leave reviews, etc. That's just one angle. The next angle is putting it on YouTube, the next angle is sharing it with our business pages and then running ads on it. That's where you're able to see some significant impact on being able to actually engage with an audience that you may not currently be engaging in. Because guess what? If you don't have a show in the iTunes store, you don't have podcast listeners. I hate to be the one to break that news, but again, we can change all that. I'm not trying to, this isn't a pitch fest, but it is my show. So obviously, I want to talk about solutions in addition to providing value and helping you understand what you need to know about social media. So if you're looking to start a podcast, um, I'm very excited about what we've done here already with the podcast launch lab. My team uh and I came together probably about a month and a half ago and just laid down everything I've done since 2013 pertaining to starting a podcast, reshaping the show, changing the show, changing the format, changing the technology, and basically a pre-launch, a launch, and then ongoing marketing. What does that look like? And we put together the program. And from that was bird the podcastlaunchlab.com. So for more information, check out podcastlaunchlab.com, send me your info there, and I will be in touch to explain the details. We've only we're only opening this up to um 10 people um for this initial beta launch. Everything works, everything's the system's there. Um we just want to make sure that uh we're not biting off more than we can choose. So we've got space for 10. We've already got two on, so that leaves room for eight people if you're interested. Um I'd love to work with you and love to for you to be a part of this initial uh aspect of launching the podcast launch lab. So more information, hit me up. But again, a podcast is a digital audio file made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device. That means the audio file flies to the iTunes Store and you can go search for it under the podcast, and you can download it and you can subscribe to that podcast. So it's your modern day radio. And yes, there usually is a theme. Uh our theme consistently is social media and what's happening in my in in like the most what's happening this week uh is usually what we try to cover. But I had a friend call me this morning and asked me what I was up to, and I started to talk about the podcast Launch Lab, and she's like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, back up. She's the realtor. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, back up. What is a podcast? So, and she's not old school, old school. So she understands she's she's pretty social media savvy, but that just led me to believe it. She said, Sebastian, why don't you do an episode of your show just explaining what a podcast is, explaining why a brand needs it, and then let them know about the podcast launch lab because I'm explaining what it is, I'm telling you why you need one as a brand, and then I'm providing you a solution. So that's really what I'm trying to get all wrapped up right now, uh, like a burrito, is uh is the value out of what the heck is a podcast, explaining that, um, telling you why you need it, and then giving you a solution to be able to do just that. So, more information on podcasting, hit me up. I mean, I don't want to complicate the process, so that's why I basically said the podcast launch lab is a 30-day simple program. It's not of course you buy and I set you on your own. This is like we work together hands-on for 30 days to actually get your first four episodes edited and give you a cookie-cutter way of being able to produce your show on a monthly basis ongoing while we do all the ongoing work as far as editing uh is concerned and group coaching we have on a monthly basis, and we've got a private favorite Facebook uh group where other podcasters can network um within the podcast launch lab. So, but I'm the chief scientist here at the podcast launch lab. So any questions, hit me up. I don't know if I mentioned it before. My email address is srusk at socialbuzztv.com. I respond to all my emails um usually within 24 to 48 hours. It's getting a little bit longer, but I still respond. Some people don't. Won't mention any names. Anyhow. So as uh as we continue here, we've covered podcasts. That's what I want to talk about. Kind of podcast 101. What the heck is a podcast? Why do I need it? I just let me let me close it. I want to I really want this to land so you understand why a brand needs a podcast. But I also um want to move on to one more topic before we close out the show. So um why? Forget about the why. You know why, because you need to provide value to a community where they can identify you as the go-to source for what you do. Social media helps you do just that. Um podcasting specifically allows you to provide value. People can listen in the car, they can listen when they're at the beach, they can listen with their home, they can listen with their at their desk, they can start it, they can stop it, they can replay it. And if you multi-purpose it and follow our game plan on what we do to be able to take one podcast show and generate four pieces of content out of one show, then you're gonna find you're connecting with people in other places, like your blog, like your YouTube channel, like your Facebook page, in addition to just having a podcast up in the iTunes Store and the Google Play Store for all you Android freaks. Just kidding. I said that with love. I promise that. So another th uh uh big change happened this week is uh Facebook continues to aggressively go after Snapchat. Aggressively. If you think about what they own, Instagram, WhatsApp, the Facebook iOS app, Facebook ads platform, they are dominating the social media game. And I think people have started to catch on that that's exactly what's taking place. Now, what do you mean by dominating? Well, they moved into creating your Facebook Messenger day and then turned it into Facebook stories. Um, and it's no mystery is that they're following the lead of of what they're doing with Instagram. First, they they created Instagram stories. That was the first jab at Snapchat saying, hey, listen, we got the similar, we have similar technology and we've got more users. Watch this. So in Instagram, all of a sudden you could snap your story, create content of your story, and share it with people for 24 hours. You can also save that content. You can save the the the videos and pictures that are shared within your story before they get deleted. That's the cool part. Why? What are you gonna do with that once you save that? You can repurpose it, right? There was a really good picture that you took that was part of your story, save it, repurpose it. If there was a really good video, you get 25 seconds. You can get some solid value out of 25 seconds in a video. Save that video, upload it to Facebook, run an ad on it, upload it to YouTube, take the embedded code, create a blog post out of it. That's the purpose of stories. It's not just I'm walking my dog. I just got home, I just woke up, I'm at work. It's to share your life. That's the purpose of Facebook in the first place. Zuck said it when he was still in his dorm room at Harvard. People want to share their lives. Facebook just continues to innovate, change things, and crush their competition. Before it even becomes a problem, they've either bought them or they've created a technology that's far greater than them that will eventually take them out. I believe, and I'm gonna go on record right now, this is a strong statement. I I firmly believe with the horsepower that Facebook currently has right now, with Instagram and their own platform of Facebook, not to mention WhatsApp and everything they're doing with Messenger and chat bots and how WhatsApp's being integrated into businesses for customer service, et cetera, I firmly believe that Facebook will take Snapchat out if they don't buy them. But I don't think I don't think Snapchat's going to sell. Even though Snapchat's a public company, I think that was still a play on, hey, we're here to stay, but Facebook is like, watch this. We're public too. So Facebook stories. If you've been looking at your newsfeed, you'll see at the top that there's a little place for Facebook stories, and you'll see little circles with your friends. It used to only be within the Messenger app. That kind of just snuck in there. Next thing you know, you open up Facebook Messenger and you have the opportunity to add to your daily story. Well, why do I want to do that? Well, if you're a brand, you're a solopreneur, you're an entrepreneur, you work for a company, you handle marketing, you should be creating content within Facebook, not just on the Facebook timeline, not just uh you should be implementing a Facebook Messenger strategy to be able to communicate with customers and talk to people and generate leads and sales, et cetera, because of the incredible technology that's being implemented within Facebook Messenger for businesses. And you should also be creating content as part of Facebook stories as a brand. Why? Because that is your job as a business owner, solarpreneur, entrepreneur, whatever you are. It's your job to tell the story of your brand. And how do you do that? Well, technology makes it so easy. Makes it absolutely the most simple process that's ever been possible being in business. There's never been an easier time to start a business. There's never been an ab never been an easier time to be in business. With the tools and the resources that are available today, it's absolutely unbelievable. So any questions on why all of this is happening and going down the way that it is with Facebook and continue on your ongoing evolution of the platform, hit me up. Again, I'd love to answer any questions that you have. If you're just joining in, maybe you're just tuning in, maybe you're listening to this next year. I don't know. Hey, welcome to the Sub Rush Show. I'm Sebastian Rosk, your host. As always, welcome to the show. So we do this each and every week. Help you better understand what you don't know that you don't know about social media. We covered uh what a podcast is in the beginning of the episode. A lot of people don't know. So if you fast forwarded, rewind. You want to better understand what a podcast is. Talked about how Google defines a podcast, talked about why a brand needs a podcast, and basically explained exactly what it, you know, how we got to the launch of the podcast launch lab, which is a unique program that allows people to launch their first four episodes from soup to nuts, A to Z in 30 days, and then have us coach you and edit your ongoing episodes uh for you as part of being a lab member. So, and then we moved into Facebook stories. I was gonna talk about um Facebook pages allowing um you to link to groups, but we're almost out of time, and I want to keep I want to respect everyone's time and I want to keep us as close to 20 minutes as possible. This is short, digestible content to help you get insight. You maybe don't have time to sit and read the social media headlines or understand when you opened up Facebook today what that Facebook stories means. When you or maybe you saw a post today and someone said you've got to listen to this podcast, and you thought to yourself, I don't know what a podcast is. That's the goal to be able to help you understand exactly what that is all about on here. Okay, I'm gonna close things out here. We've been going here um for about it feels like about 20 minutes. Uh actually, no, under 20 minutes. What do you know? We're 18 minutes in, got a couple minutes to spare, so I'm gonna go ahead and close things out real quick with a quick little bit of a humble brag. I don't know if humble brags are even um possible. I think it's just a brag, but I'm more than anything humbled. Um you're listening to the show right now, but if you check the show notes, you're gonna be able to see uh a link uh to this and all the information this month in Entrepreneur Magazine, yours truly, uh, was featured along with my publisher, Advantage Media Group. They wrote an article called the Business of Business Books. Got a call from a journalist with Entrepreneur Magazine a couple of months ago, and they asked if I'd be interested in being part of a story with Advantage Media Group on the journey of writing my book and why I write the book the book and just an incredible um deep dive into the business of business books. So I was really uh I feel really privileged to be included with this. My publisher, Advantage Media, um, offers an absolutely impeccable publishing solution. They are a hybrid between a major publisher and self-publishing. Uh, so I'm really, really stoked about that. So, hey, Entrepreneur Magazine, wherever magazines are sold, there's also a link to the story. I like to actually grab the magazine. I had a friend actually take a screenshot on Sunday morning, message me and go, um, I was just gonna make my coffee and reading this month's issue of Entrepreneur Magazine. All of a sudden I saw this and I saw my name in lights, and I was like, what? Well, not lights, but I think that's the term, right? So I immediately ran out to Barnes Noble and bought every single copy that they had uh on the shelf. So I'm really excited about that. I wrote the book in 2014. So that was almost uh was three years ago. So to be able to see the aftermath of something that I wrote three years ago, and I was very adamant when I wrote the book to make sure that it was still gonna be relevant three years later. There's a lot of books out there that are irrelevant. I won't mention any, but there are. So I was stoked that here we are three years later, and you never really know what's gonna come out of this. And I'm not here to just brag about it, but I've worked my ass off. So I'm really stoked that for the past seven years, um, hard work starting to really, really pay off. I feel extremely blessed. I'm completely convinced that hard work pays off. Um, and I really prove that to myself and everybody that's supported me since day one, my friends, my family, you know, my mentors, people that absolutely just um care about me so much that they're willing to uh harass me on a daily basis uh to make sure that my game's on point, whether it's going to the gym, whether it's how many uh new accounts we've got with the agency on the weekly basis. Again, if you don't have a mentor, hashtag mentor up. Well, we are out of time. We know what that sound means. We are almost out of here. But I appreciate you guys tuning in each and every week. You're taking 20 minutes out of your day. Sometimes I go a little over, sometimes it's 25 minutes. But again, the goal of the show is to help you understand what you don't know that you don't know about social media. I hope you know a little bit more about podcasts this week. I hope you know a little bit more about Facebook stories, and I definitely would be humbled uh if you went over to entrepreneur.com and checked out the article I was featured in regarding the business of business books. Well, we are absolutely out of time. Thanks so much for tuning in without the show. Without you guys, the show doesn't happen. So I appreciate each and every one of you. Questions, thoughts, ideas, concerns, drop me an email, srusk at socialbuzzTV dot com. Well, I'm Sebastian Russ signing off from our studio here at SocialBuzzTV inside business. We'll talk with you next week.
