This is the Beyond the Story Podcast, a show that goes way beyond the story. And now, Sebastian Frida. I think that's my Q. I love when you do that, Michael B. Big shout out to Michael B, the voice for the past 29 years of the Miami Heat, our beloved Miami Heat. My guest this week, I I uh I found out about this individual through a live event called Funnel Hacking Live that a gentleman named Russell Brunson puts on. He owns a massive empire called ClickFunnels, and they bring all kinds of different uh speakers. And Tony Robbins has been there, and my buddy Devon uh Devon Brown's the MC every year. But I always follow along. I've never been there, but I always follow along. And uh I noticed a fresh new face on the stage this year, and I quickly looked her up, and then somebody on her team had reached out to me, and then I reached out to her, and ladies and gentlemen, here we are. So, friends, please welcome to the show, the one and only Marley Jax. What's up, girl?
SPEAKER_01Hello, my friends. So happy to be here.
SPEAKER_02It's great to it's great to have you on the show here. I'm um lot it's been an exciting year to say the least. I mean, the year's kind of slowed down for all of us slightly here, but not for marketers, right?
SPEAKER_01No, no, and it's exciting as an understatement. I'm sure we'll get into it.
SPEAKER_02Yes, most definitely. So uh let's give my listeners a better understanding of of of what you do, and then let's talk about the backstory, really, where uh where where this how this all came about. How did Marley Jacks um become what Marley Jacks is today? And we can go from there. So and just have a you know cut casual conversation to help my listeners know what they don't know that they don't know about Marley Jacks.
SPEAKER_01Sure. Well, I have a video marketing agency. I help entrepreneurs scale their audience in ROI through through video.
SPEAKER_00Cool.
SPEAKER_01Um and I used to be a dental hygienist, which is so yeah, quite the jump, right? Um I was a dental hygienist. I knew that I didn't want to be a dental hygienist forever, but I uh I was I was doing that, and then I started doing the social media for the dental office on the side just because I was bored.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01And uh and then the IT guy referred me to some of his clients. Next thing you know, he referred me to all of his clients, and then I had a business, and uh I wanted to get more clients and to you know, maybe I could leave dental hygiene and do this full time. So I started making videos for myself to get myself out there, and some of these videos really started to take off. And then I was like, can I do these videos for my clients? And then some of those really started to take off. And then, you know, since then, long story short, doubled down on video, and that's that's what we're known for today is helping people to scale their audience in RY through video.
SPEAKER_02Now, when you started creating your own videos and they started taking off, what type of videos were these?
SPEAKER_01They were, and it was kind of by accident that I was like just answering frequently asked questions that I would get. So I was like, How do I put text on my picture? Here's a Canva tutorial, or how do I make money on Instagram? Well, here's how you do it. Um, and it was it was just answering questions that I got.
SPEAKER_02Got it. And then so and then when you when you segued into being referred to clients and going like, well, I can help clients out, and then you started to do that, and those took off. What was the initial concepts there when you went to a client and said, Listen, here's what I've been doing for me, here's what I think we can do for you. What did that look like?
SPEAKER_01I would look at like what what's their expertise, what are questions that people would ask for them, or what are things that people are searching for in their specific niche? And then sometimes sometimes you gotta get creative because I mean it's not we're not not all clients are info products or or asking questions. Um so there was this one client, they were a plumbing company, and I thought, plumbing is kind of boring, what kind of videos am I gonna make here?
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01But um, we made a character out of one of their employees who put on an Australian accent and became plumber dundee, and uh in literally in the plumbing jungle right now. I can't do the accent very well, but um, but he became his character and his the videos were fun and entertaining, and uh you know the call volume went up. People started requesting the plumber dundee, did their service calls. Um, so there's a video strategy for anything.
SPEAKER_02Right. There there most definitely is. So you was this all was it YouTube from the beginning when you started creating videos?
SPEAKER_01No, it was a lot of it at the beginning was just throw it everywhere and see what works.
SPEAKER_02Right, right, right, right, right. I think a lot of people did that. But you I mean you've you've got a pretty solid subscriber base. I was uh I was checking you out earlier on uh on YouTube there. So you know, growing up to 15, over 15,000 subscribers is no easy task. So when did you decide to start getting serious about YouTube?
SPEAKER_01Um, in about two well, I my first video was 2016, and so in 2017, I was like, hey, I'm gonna do this every week.
SPEAKER_02Oh, cool. So it's okay, cool. Excellent. And how many videos a week do you put out for your channel?
SPEAKER_01Now we do two or three. Um, and I would love to amp that up to like five videos a week, but I also want to do you know quality over quantity.
SPEAKER_02Sure. Yeah, no, I totally get it. I just got out of you, I just got out of editing hell before you and I started recording. So and I I I I went from I launched the channel a year ago and I did it kind of the wrong way, not the wrong way. I thought that I was following a YouTuber, and which was it, which there were a lot of good things that happened. I grew it up to like 400 subscribers, but then um uh one of my best friends is a is a YouTube expert in San Diego, and he's like, dude, I have a like an intensive and I've known you forever today. Like, I know what we can do with this. Like, you should just join my program. So I did. And uh shout out to Owen Video, and um and uh I'm like knee deep in this now right now. I I'm almost at 700 subscribers, I'm doing three videos a week, and I want the podcast launch lab channel to be a lead gen solution and also a resource. But I was only building it. That was that was the big thorn in Owen's side was that he's like, you're building this as just a resource channel. So they're just gonna use you and abuse you whenever they need you, and that's it. They're not gonna look to you as any type of entertainment source or knowledge base. You're just a resource. And I'm like, hmm, interesting. So now I'm doing different silos and whatnot, you know? Got a couple different silos going on here. So learning a lot of learning a lot of stuff about YouTube. It's it's a big let's talk about that for a second. YouTube's a like a big animal.
SPEAKER_00Like it's a beast.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It really, really is because shooting my videos is now, it used to be a little more difficult because I would go and script everything out. You know, I'd do the whole GRAB acronym or GREAT acronym rather. I spelled that great wrong. I thought it was great, like great potatoes or great cheese. It was spelled, I'm writing around like G-R-A-T-E, and then my buddy's like, I'm glad you're in our program. But anyway, now I don't I I do script them out a little bit because I want to make sure that I got the grab right and I've the relayed and all the the that that that formula does work on here, but I found myself that I can just turn the camera on and shoot a video. So I'm launching a funnel right now, and I have to shoot a bunch of videos for this funnel. And uh I got done with those with those videos on Saturday, and somebody messaged me, hey Sebastian, I I have an interview coming up on my on my podcast. How do I interview someone? And I thought, huh, what a great topic. So I did. So I just hit the record button and I and I and I went live. I tried some different uh, you know, pattern disruptions and whatnot, and then I just boom went right into editing. So like the creative process is so like record, let it sit there for a minute, throw it in the editor, stare at it for a second, go, this sucks, and delete it and maybe shoot it again, you know. So um I've tried as long as I get you gotta get out of your way with all that stuff, don't you? You gotta just done is better than perfect. Let's talk about that for a minute.
SPEAKER_01I mean, you even did that right at the beginning before we got started. You're like, done is better than perfect. Right, right. Um and yeah, it's I mean, even in storytelling, um, I love talking about vulnerability and storytelling. I think you and I kind of clicked on that even before we hit record. It's there's nothing off the table. I wanna I want to share everything, all the vulnerable stuff, because that's what gets your audience to connect with you. And even in video and content, I look back at my videos where like, I'm like, why did I do my hair like that? Or why did I film from that angle? But that also lets my audience relate to me because I'm real, I'm personal. They get to see how far I've come to like, you know, filming on with my iPhone on a stack of books propped up in front of a window to to where I am today speaking on stages. Like you get to see that it's relatable. I started started from the bottom, now we're here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly. Yeah, but and I and I I'd say same here. Say I started with a with a Kodak Zi8 flip cam. That was my jam, and then iPhone started just producing phenomenal quality. And then a couple years ago, I upped my game and bought a little small, you know, camera against my will because my clients were like, Why do you keep shooting videos on iPhones? Do you have cameras like normal people? I'm like, I'm not a videographer and I'm not normal. Normal is a setting on your dryer. Let's be clear. Ooh, I like that. Let's be clear about that. So if people are starting a YouTube channel today, what are like what are a couple tactical things that they should they should keep in mind when starting their channel and to remain realistic?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, quality over quantity. Um, sometimes people just want to create content for the sake of content, but you know, what content are you are you creating that's actually going to make an impact for your audience and lead to making a profit? I'm not just trying to create content like just a masterpiece that sits out in the desert. I I want this content to actually lead back to how am I changing lives and how is this growing my business? So I look at what can I, what am I selling? Um, and how can I drop little lead magnets or freebies that gets people into my world, into my email list after they watch this video.
SPEAKER_02I love how you led with does it help people? And then does it grow my business? Right? Which means do I can I can I can I make money from what I'm doing? But you led with does it help people? Because you're right. We we we are most definitely on the same page because YouTube, podcast, same same ballpark, right? So so same thing. People come into my studio all the time and go, Well, I want to start a podcast, and I got this idea to this. And I say, Well, let's back up for a second. Why do you want to start a podcast?
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_02Well, I just thought it'd be a good idea and I could monetize. No, we're just off on the wrong track there. So, well, what's the what's the right answer? There's not a right answer, but I lean more towards I have a story to tell. And if I tell this story, it's gonna shift people's mindsets and it's gonna change people's lives. And I'm gonna leave this world a better place than I am. And people can look back, and my legacy are the podcast episodes and shows that I launched, and I helped people launch. I see the lives that I change on a daily basis just by people going from A to B. For in your world, it's oh my god, I'm gonna look like shit on camera. To I love the video, it's amazing, Marley. You're the best! Like, there's not a better feeling than the person going from same thing happens. Like, oh my gosh, I sound so stupid. I tried to record it in my house, it was terrible. The dog was barking, Amazon showed up, the kids were screaming. I'm like, Can you take a deep breath for me? Have a glass of wine and come into the studio tomorrow. We'll knock it out right here, and I'll coach you through that whole process. And watching people go from A to B is there's not a better feeling. There really, really isn't. And you're also reassured that you're that you're on the right track and you're doing work that work that matters, you know? Feels good. So you don't you didn't just grow a business like you you you were you're in the ClickFunnels club where they give you that big record and and in the frame that the comic club, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, two comic clubs. I mean, just overnight success as usual, as most people do, right?
SPEAKER_02Insert sarcasm here, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So how'd that all happen? So you grew the business up, and then it just when when did when did you be decide that you know we need to start vamping this up, creating putting this in a funnel and like you know, really scaling this thing?
SPEAKER_01I found out about click funnels. I went to funnel hacking live for the first time uh in 2018. My best friend was speaking at the event, Rachel Peterson.
SPEAKER_02I was supposed to be there.
SPEAKER_01What's that?
SPEAKER_02I was supposed to be there. I was across the street literally at a client. So close. Could have met already.
SPEAKER_01I know. What are you doing? Um so that was my first introduction to ClickFunnels, and I wasn't using ClickFunnels before then. So 2018, I was introduced to ClickFunnels, saw all these people who are just regular, everyday people like me that learned how to grow a business and make a million dollars doing it. And I was like, if these regular people can do it, does that mean that like I could too? Right. You just gotta be told what's possible. And then with amazing mentors like Russell and everyone at ClickFunnels, they give you the path, they show you the way.
SPEAKER_02Did you join Russell's mastermind?
SPEAKER_01I joined his inner circle, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, it's so I was I was wondering how and like to get on that stage, not the easiest task at all. So, you know, you gotta be making some moves and you gotta be a badass like you are. So um is that how you met Russell is by joining his inner circle or did you meet him? Okay, cool. Yeah, I mean that's by design, right? You want to meet me and hang out with me, it's not free, but it's definitely fruitful.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And it's an investment that is paid off tenfold.
SPEAKER_02Wow, that's outstanding. Yeah, I've heard a lot of great things about uh about Russell's inner circle. I've I've never met him before, but um, I hear great things about him. He's he's doing some really cool stuff. You can tell he's in service. He's in service for people, you know, to not overcomplicate, you know, marketing and funnels and uh and make it about that. I you know, I thought about that. The the more that I'm I'm I'm doing my um my new funnel campaign with um the Steve's funnels guys. I don't know if you know those guys. Steve's funnel. Yeah, okay, cool. So I I clicked on their ad and I'm like, does this work? And they're like, You got on our calendar, didn't you? And I said, Okay, cool. So anyway, I I was this is the one of the biggest decisions I've made to date uh since I launched the podcast launch lab. But um I was talking about this this morning. I I've had a couple people tell me you're nuts, that was crazy, that's a giant investment, you're out of your noodle, we're in the middle of like COVID, I don't know what. And I'm like, yeah, this is when leaders rise up and like make shit happen. So I'm gonna go and I'm gonna take the resource, pull the resources that I got and and lean into the faith that I have uh in both myself and and and the good lord above to keep me on track on on how I, you know, show how I'm showing up to go, this is my next move. Because there's something about being convinced you should do something, but there's also something about being absolutely certain that you should be doing it, and that's where I'm at. So the reason I say that is because I'm a ClickFunnels customer, I have been forever and a day, and um it's done nothing for me. I think I have like $300 in ClickFunnels sales, but I I can like landing page, grab the email, goes into my what's it called, basic funnel has been set up, so I've like at least had it. Anyway, now I have to have it as part of the campaign, and I was like, oh my gosh, this thing's gonna blow up. And when this thing blows up, all my sales are tracked through ClickFunnels, and I'm gonna get a record.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then the crowd's gonna go, wait, oh, that was the wrong button. Goodness gracious, I'm learning my new soundboard over here, clearly, huh? So how so um so inner circle led to to to speaking, obviously, to getting on stage.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02So did you do they ask you or did you like did they say who wants to speak that's in the inner circle?
SPEAKER_01No, I mean everyone wants to speak. I think it's like an unwritten, unsaid thing that everyone wants to. Sure. Um because it's definitely it's an achievement to to speak on that stage. And I had I I mean I dropped hints, so I was like, Russell, if you need a speaker, I'm you know, female speaker, hello. Yeah. Um and uh and it was actually like I everyone knew, like I actually called my shot a year before I made a video where I was like, next year I'm gonna be speaking on that stage. And I I posted that video, and um, and then it was like what it was October, and FHL was in January, and in my mind I was like, it's over. Like he's already asked everybody, it's not happening this year. And then I get a uh text from him that he's like, Hey, can you jump on Zoom with me? I have a question to ask you, and I'm like, This is it. I like drop everything.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01If you're busy January 30th, whatever the dates were. And I was like, anything, I would yes, I mean, I would I'm fine. Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_02I'll take everything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it was the best day.
SPEAKER_02So you had a little precursor to that though. That was the uh it was the the the the Comic Club cruise that you left right out of my backyard here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the two comic club cruise was two weeks before Final Hacking Live. Two or three weeks.
SPEAKER_02So you gave a talk there. That was an event type deal, or I did, yeah.
SPEAKER_01It was um it was good because it was about 300 people that I got to kind of practice a little bit of my presentation to, and also peers. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And chocolate covered strawberries.
SPEAKER_01That too. You saw that video. Delish.
SPEAKER_02I did, I did. All right, so you you like made a big to-do about this whole I mean, it is a big to-do. Let me let me stand corrected. It is a big to-do about being on the on the on the FHL stage. Uh, but about your preparation. Uh, and as any, you know, professional, self-loving female would, the outfit's gotta be good, the hair's gotta be good, they've got to have everything all squared dialed in, and uh your outfit almost didn't make it, I guess.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I ordered a jacket, this gold jacket that I'm like sure, the jacket that I have to wear on this stage. And I I ordered it to Boise, and like the day before I leave, I'm like, it's supposed to show up on Thursday. What has so I called the company and they're like, oh, it's sitting in your cart, you didn't actually buy it. And I was like, Oh my god, like this is my vision. I had to wear this jacket. So I'm like, can you expedite it? Can you send it to the hotel? It gets to the hotel. I'm like trying to search for it. I'm I'm calling like the front desk, they're trying to search for it.
SPEAKER_02That's a big place to be running around looking for a gold jacket.
SPEAKER_01And I just I don't know, I don't know where it is. Like I was like, I, you know, I didn't plan on it, but I guess I'm going on stage naked because I have I need this, I need this jacket. I found it though. I didn't go on stage naked, so that's good.
SPEAKER_02That's always a plus. That's definitely always a plus. I think it's the other way we're supposed to pretend everyone's naked in the crowd. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, that's the other way around.
SPEAKER_02That's the other hack. I've been to you, you finally tracked it down right there. That FedEx, I've been there because um my story about uh that that venue is uh what is it called? Opri Land. Yeah. Um I lost my beanie there. So I was in Lost and Found right there by FedEx. It's a tragic story. Yeah. You know why? Because I was cool guy Gary V with my beanie in my back pocket, drinking a beer. Hey, cool guy, you know? And the next thing I know, it gets cold there in Nashville. So that's why I had a beanie. I was gonna run, I'm like, let me just run across the street. I can, I'm sure there's like a like somebody's at the bar hanging out. Like that whole I was in Nashville that week, literally across the street from uh what's called in twenty in in 2018. So um you've been speaking as this thing started to so was this one of your first major speaking gigs?
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_02Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_01Nice.
SPEAKER_02So has this led to other speaking gigs?
SPEAKER_01I mean until COVID, yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's all gonna get figured out with uh with the with the virtual event space, and then obviously technology is, you know, and as we adapt, I think, you know, we crave live events, we crave connection, we crave being in person. It's just gonna have to be, you know, uh uh executed differently. You know, I got a client opening a restaurant here in Miami, and he's been researching what South Korea's been doing on for like restaurants and like it's plastic partitions in between each table, you know. Okay. Doesn't sound the most beats staying home.
SPEAKER_01Totally, you know. It may not be the prettiest decor, but we'll make it work.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, our our our uh you know, I guess our new normal is six feet, six feet, you know, social distancing. Yeah, and uh if you don't need to go, don't go, I guess. But it'll be interesting. But how you know this this all came about real real fast. So I mean I feel like it's I feel like we've been in it forever. But then I saw at the same time, it like began last month, like at the beginning of last month was when everything started to like by the 15th, um, I was convinced I sat home for like two days and sucked my thumb, and I'm like, that's it. I've spent 10 years building a brand out of a recession, and we're going right back into one, and here we are again, and I'm done. And I was a and then I had my Tony Robbins moment the next morning, and I was like, out of my way, I'll handle this. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So, how you've been holding up with all this? What have you what's your thought process been? How have your clients been reacting? How's the how's the world holding up?
SPEAKER_01Um, the world is holding up okay. I mean, I already I always worked from home, but like I travel all the time. Like I am never home for more than a week or two at a time. So that's been the biggest struggle.
SPEAKER_02Um and you're based where?
SPEAKER_01Well, here's the thing. Um, I my I have a I have a house in Canada. That's where my parents are. Okay. But my life is in the States. So I was in Canada when this all started. And um and I struggled with that because as much as I love my house and I loved my parents, I needed to be where my people were. So uh a couple weeks ago I actually jumped the border and uh now I'm settled in my second home here in Boise. And uh I I quarantined before I told anybody because I didn't want the internet to get mad at me for making for taking that risk and making that jump. But uh yeah, now I'm just quarantining in Boise.
SPEAKER_02I love that. Why Boise?
SPEAKER_01That's where my my second home is, my my friends that are family, and uh I have some clients here, so when things calm down, I can just kind of get back to normal life here.
SPEAKER_02Cool. I've never been to Boise, but I hear great things about it. That's where Russell is, too, isn't he?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's where ClickFunnels is.
SPEAKER_02He's got like a football field in his backyard, doesn't he?
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, and nine in-ground trampolines, which I tease him about all the time. That I'm like, you know, two Comic Club Award, you teach us how to make a million dollars, you teach us how to get to ten million, and the next thing I need to know is how to get nine in-ground trampolines.
SPEAKER_02Those Mormons do a big out there. He went live one night. I'm like, is he at the park? And I'm like, no, he's in my backyard. He's like, I'm in my backyard. I look forward to meeting him. Maybe I can get him on the show. Hey, yeah, uh, you know, Russell, I don't. So hey, six degrees of separation, huh? So uh, so so what's next for Marley Jacks? You're I mean, you're you're the the speaking business is obviously going to continue to to to grow for you in your business. You're not slowing down at all. Um what what are you working on right now and in and what's next?
SPEAKER_01Um we are uh I'm writing a book that's exciting. Um and then uh we're launching a 90-day intensive so that people who are you know need to make a content machine that sells for them and creates reliable, recurring predictable revenue, we can get those results for them really fast, which is what a lot of businesses need right now.
SPEAKER_02Cool. So people are gonna they they they they can join the 90-day intensive, and by the time they're done, they have uh they have tangible content for their business.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well it's it's more than content. They have an online business, they have a system that sells their products and services on autopilot. Um, and it's even like it's set up in 30 days, and then the second month is to launch and the third month is to scale.
SPEAKER_02Fantastic. Very cool. And when does that launch?
SPEAKER_01May.
SPEAKER_02Oh, cool. Hey, soon, very soon. Yeah, um what what's What's the most exciting thing that you do with your business?
SPEAKER_01I mean, every day I get to talk to people and share my stories and hear their stories.
SPEAKER_02So it's basically everything that you're doing on a daily basis. I don't consider what I do work. It's like I get paid to play.
SPEAKER_01I know, right? And it's funny, I had someone being like, well, if you ever if you ever get bored or whatever, and I'm like, Do you know what I do all day? I do not get bored. No way.
SPEAKER_02There's no boredom at all. Well, this part of the show, we're we're uh we're we're almost out of time. I'm gonna let you get back to your busy day, but I'm sure I'm stoked that you took some time out of your day. But in each episode, I always like to take some time to hang out with my friends on the show and chat with my friends at Pod Decks. Are you familiar with Pod Dex?
SPEAKER_01I have not heard of it.
SPEAKER_02Well, Poddex are the interview deck that contain 50 unique conversation starting questions to help you take your podcast interviews to the next level and keep your audience entertained. So it's a deck of cards with a bunch of random questions. So we help people start a podcast. We're like, what am I gonna talk about on the podcast? I don't know what to ask my guests, yada yada yada. Well, my friends at Poddex have figured that all out. My friend Travis actually created these, and I just like to, you know, we're gonna ask a couple questions. Is that cool? They're like random, yeah. They're like random pod deck questions. Yes, exactly, exactly. All right, let's see here. I like to shuffle the deck because, well, it's a deck of cards, isn't that what you do?
SPEAKER_01I mean, it makes sense. What else would you do?
SPEAKER_02I feel like we need some music. Dun dun music that won't get us sued. Here we go. All right, here we go. Let's get the shuffle down. This song came with the Rodcaster, so if I get sued, Road, you gave me this song. You hear me? Okay. All right, here we go. Let's see here. Of course, I have to say, ooh, this is a good one. Ooh, or it's not like you know, I'm not setting it up correctly. Ooh, that is a good one. When when were your parents most disappointed in you?
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, yesterday.
SPEAKER_02Marley, what are you doing? Oh, goodness.
SPEAKER_01They want me to be in Canada right now. It's a problem.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh. I well, hey, listen, parents want what parents want, right?
SPEAKER_01I get it. I get it.
SPEAKER_02Um, okay, let's see here. That was a quote. I keep pulling this. It's like I feel like I pulled the same card up in any every interview. Let's see here.
SPEAKER_01Um We had great webinars, great attendance rates, great sales despite everything going on. Um I'm really excited about my book that I'm writing.
SPEAKER_02What's the name of it?
SPEAKER_01The name of it. Um right now, working title, the underground charisma formula.
SPEAKER_02The underground charisma formula. I like it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, working title. Yeah, um, and I just I'm super excited about all the the feedback and the testimonials and the the nice things that people say about me online because I've I've been given a lot of value and it's just a lot of hard years that that seem like they're paying off right now. It's exciting.
SPEAKER_02Hard work does pay off. Okay, we're gonna do one more pod deck question. This is this is a good one too. You have a hundred thousand dollars, you have to donate or create a charity. What do you do?
SPEAKER_01Hmm. I would donate it to Operation Underground Railroad.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I like that. For those of you not familiar, that is uh that's Russell Brunson's charity, isn't it? That helps uh uh human trafficking. Is that correct or is not? He supports it. Am I wrong about that?
SPEAKER_01He supports it. Um it's Tim Ballard that he they're actually making a movie about it right now. It's it's I'm so excited to see it. Um and I was really happy that I got to meet him at the last funnel hocking live and shake his hand and say thank you for Tony.
SPEAKER_02Um you cut out there.
SPEAKER_01I Tim sorry, Tim Ballard is the is the he runs this charity and he's the one in the field, you know, saving these kids. So I was happy that I got to meet him and shake his hand and tell him thank you for what you do and for inspiring all of us to, and even just giving us the awareness that this is what's happening in the world and we have the ability to change it.
SPEAKER_02It's so unbelievable to even it seems like it's something out of a movie, which it totally is, but it is unfortunately it's real life.
SPEAKER_01But making a movie out of it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Well, I listen, I I love when it's not just about marketing and it's just not about business and it's not about the next buck, but like there's something backed and connected to it that's actually doing stuff to to to change the world and and for for the better and in and and to make it a better place. Uh your your name is is uh is is real catchy. Marley Jacks. Marley Jacks. Yep. Um it hasn't always been Marley Jacks, it's actually as of recent is Marley Jacks. So let's let's let's uh let's round things out here as we uh as we bring the episode to a close and tell people how you got to Marley Jacks. Because I I love the I love I love the the story, really. I just watched the video about it.
SPEAKER_00Oh, good.
SPEAKER_02And by the way, and by the way, before you tell everybody, uh I watched that video, and just so you know, you can go to her YouTube channel, Marley Jacks with two X's, and uh I don't know what the name what the name of the video. She's gonna tell you in a second here. It's why here's regarding the name change. Anyway, she's like opening scene. All right, so shot this video uh six times. And um, yeah, so here we go. My point of bringing that up is that um that she didn't have to be authentic like that, and she didn't have to be vulnerable like that. But when you press play and you see vulnerability like that, you automatically receive permission. Our brain goes, uh oh, I'm allowed to do that too. So I commend you on your vulnerability, and um I I feel an act the same exact way. So if you're listening to this right now and you're wondering about vulvo vulnerability, it is a superpower.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that video, that video for sure. Um the video is called Addressing My Name Change.
SPEAKER_02Here we go.
SPEAKER_01Um, here we go. Let's just throw it all out on the table. I um I I got a divorce. My marriage ended, and um at the end of December, I you know, I don't even know if I was really ready for it. If I didn't have funnel hacking live coming up where I had all this big exposure and didn't want my my old last name, I don't know if I would have done it at at that time, but it was the perfect timing. Um but I I changed my name on social media and then I went silent. And of course, people noticed and were like, what is this? What does this mean? Who is this? What's going on? And I just went silent for a few days intentionally. So first of all, and it also took me longer than I expected to make that video. Like I said, I filmed it so many times. Um and uh yeah, the video opens up, and I'm like, I've been getting a lot of questions. Actually, I started because it's the beginning of 2020. I'm like, 2020 vision, here like this is it's a new life, it's a new, you know, new future that we're creating. Um, and uh, you know, we have a lot of questions that we're asking ourselves. Who do we want to be? Where do we want to go? And and I am getting a lot of questions, and that's the intention for this video that I'm gonna answer for you who is Marley Jacks, why'd you change your name, and what's going on? And I say the way to answer all of that is to tell you that my marriage ended. And that kind of sums it all up. Um, I'll give you a little more context, uh, but I'm gonna share the scars and not the open wounds. I believe in the world.
SPEAKER_02I love that. I absolutely I love, love, love, and I'm not a Brene fan, I'm not a Brene fan at all. I'm just not she's cool and she's doing great things. My sister is obsessed, as with every other female in my life, obsessed with her. Totally cool. Do your thing, Brene. But that is one thing that I do agree, and I absolutely L-O-V-E love her for. Share the scars, not the wounds. Yes, absolutely. I love that.
SPEAKER_01There's there's a big difference between like hot mess and powerful message.
SPEAKER_00Ooh.
SPEAKER_01I could have I could have been on there and been a hot mess and be like, am I married and all those things? But it was just it was here's the facts, and I gave no details about what happened or why it happened.
SPEAKER_02Because it doesn't matter, they don't matter, right? To you, to you, but the well how when you're conveying it, it it's irrelevant.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, over time some things started to come out tactfully because that's not that's not the intention behind my message at any point. I'm not trying to detract from anything. Um, but yeah, I just I shared what happened um and my intentions and where where I was gonna go from here. And that was part of like that opened up so much for me because before it used to be like here's Marley sharing the tactics and the strategies and um like sharing the journey along the way, but it was like hey, just hit rock bottom, and now I'm about to I'm I'm going through the biggest transition of my life while I'm about to have the biggest opportunity in my life. Watch me.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I love it. Wow, that's fantastic. Yeah, hey, um it's it sounds to me like one thing had to happen for the other to happen. So no divorce, no, no funnel hacking live, you know. I mean, not that that was it, what but it's funny how it all works out, you know, it's kind of like whoa, this transition thing. I mean, you've definitely been being being prepared for this. Um, and we don't always get that uh we don't get the heads up, you know, it's kind of like COVID.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so we it was it was incredible, and it was um it was the biggest shift of my life, and I entered that stage to a standing ovation. I had to tell them to sit down. Like I was like, guys, I only have 28 minutes. Let's go. Thank you. I love you so much. But like I felt like such an underdog because all those big names, those celebrity names speaking on that stage, and then here's Marley Jacks, who most people haven't heard of, and also it's a brand new name. And but because the people following me, they knew my story, they knew that I just hit rock bottom and that getting to this stage was was a big deal.
SPEAKER_02Well, I've always learned that rock bottom's a great foundation to build your life on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know, and then if if you even if you fall flat on your face, you're still moving in the right direction. So I've known you for a whole twenty thirty-two minutes right now, and uh it's just great how technology allows us to connect. Um, and and that this is why I do what I do, not only helping people start a podcast, but I do my podcast because I want to connect with people and I want to continue to build relationships with people and I want to tell their story. I think that it's important. I mean, I think that you know, the very I had a kid at 22 and I raised her on my own. I'm 41. Like she's a freshman in college, you know. I beat the odds. And um, you know, yeah, she was. I had just moved to Chicago. I I'd gotten a job. My life was a mess. I didn't go to college, and I met a girl when I was 20 or 19 or 20, and uh she got pregnant. Oops, and um, science experiment works, and uh I got a job in Chicago, like right in the suburbs, and they set me up and I went to work for a domain redishoire for a year. It was too cold there, and then I got another opportunity to move to Southern California. Her and I didn't work out, we're just too young, and she just did not want to be a mom. So she checked out, and uh my sister and my mom and my family kind of band together, even though I was in California, you know, for for quite some time, till 2008. And then the market crashed. I moved back, and uh yeah, it was an incredible journey. Being an entrepreneur and losing everything in California, moving back here with the duffel bag and her sucking my thumb for two for for for uh for two years, wondering what's next between 2010, 2008 and 2010, and then um just waking up one day and having a Tony Robin, another Tony Robbins moment, like let's go awaken the giant within. I called my friend Whitney, who worked for Tony at the time. I'm friends with his son, so he had connected me with her, and um I'm like, I need to go see Unleash the Power Within. And I met somebody on Tony's team and she said, So what's next for you? And I'm like, I don't know. And she's like, Yeah, that's a problem. So in 2010, she challenged me to create something that I could help people with social media, and I did just that while being a dad, you know. We had no car, no money. I walked her to school every day, it didn't rain any days. We could walk to church, the grocery store was around the corner. I mean, we were we were blessed, and yeah, now she's in uh she's in Phoenix, she goes to uh Grand Canyon University, she's a freshman. So wild, wild story, and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. All my friends are getting married, having babies. Uh, I'm just getting more awesome.
SPEAKER_01I love it. That's a good quote. I think I'm in the same place.
SPEAKER_02I think you are too, and I just wanted to encourage you to continue to do what you're doing. I uh I I I feel the I feel the passion in what you do, and I share that with you, and I fully support you. We're we're friends now, and uh, I'm in your fan club, and uh I want I I want to know more about the book. You're gonna have to come back and talk about that, and I'm wishing you all the success with uh with the launch of the intensive. I'm about to do that too with our monthly uh podcast uh launch program. I'm turning that into an intensive because that group setting is so freaking powerful. People love that too. They like the one-on-one, but I found that in intensives you can scale back your one-to-one while giving them giving them more access, but then putting everybody in a group and then doing group trainings is is far. People love that stuff. Because other it's just like personal development. Like somebody gets up and tells their story, you're like, oh my gosh, that's me. You know? So any closing remarks for my listeners on what they should be doing in this time of COVID as a marketer, as a YouTuber, uh, as a recent divorcee taking over the world?
SPEAKER_01I mean, it's this is not the time to go quiet. This is the time to get louder. I think that a lot of people have been cautious of what do I do right now? Can I even sell right now? Is that um insensitive? And it's not. We need to stimulate the economy, we need to support people. And also, um, even if even if you're not selling, it's still about getting loud and supporting people when they need it. You can be a light for them in this dark time.
SPEAKER_02Yes, absolutely. I could not have said it better. Marley, thank you so much for your time and thank you for for for getting me on your calendar. It is my distinct pleasure to to get to know you and become friends with you now and have you on the show and be able to brag about you and talk about you and be like, I had Marley on the show. Okay, so well, let's stay in touch. You gotta come back and tell me more about that book once it drops. I want to know more about that and how we can support it. And I'm sure I'll be rocking a stage in a bow tie MC in an event that you're keynoting somewhere in the near future. So I look forward to meeting you in hashtag IRL. So come back soon, will you?
SPEAKER_01Thank you. I will.
